What are compression bandages for?

I found one one, and it looks like a very rare item, but what is the difference to regular bandages?

I imagine they are going to make the healing of wounds and such a little more diverse the Wikipedia says they can be used to hold splints or in the case of a deep cut wound or a poison bite. I'm doubtful there will be any spiders or snakes so most likely different classes of bandage to heal different types of injuries.

afaik they are remnants from a pre-alpha version, and were replaced by normal bandages (i.e. no longer used, but ended up in the v.156 versions).

Ohh... And i thought that there will be artery wounds... but current wounds can also bleed you out.
