brad_gagne
I don't like how it's basically a game-ender when you run out of matches (or your fire-striker is ruined etc), since it's then impossible to cook any meat. Would like to see some alternative mechanism introduced, like maybe once your fire-starting skill reaches 100 you can rub sticks together or something (even if it has a heavy penalty like a crappy chance of success, or takes an hour, or whatever). Much like the game still lets you smash open your canned goods after your last can opened bites the dust... anything to get away from the "oh I've exhausted this one resource, game's over" problem. xnoybis
Not sure how effective would that be in freezing temperatures, but why not if it's not too much work. But matches are hardly a rare resource, just for reference in my current play-through I have around 500 matches left (plus a firestriker) and used maybe 50 in 50 days, so on average one per day (with the average falling in later game). elloco999
There'a already a magnifying glass that can be used for fire starting, but it's very rare. But I agree that matches are not very rare at all, at least not on the Coastal Highway map. I have tons of them... I do try to use them as sparingly as possible, saving up everything I need to cook and then cook everything in 1 go. And then also melt and boil as much water as possible. I use 1-2 matches a week... brad_gagne
Totally agree that more recently on the Coastal Highway map there's almost a glut of matches, but this definitely wasn't the case when the game was limited to Mystery Lake. Maybe they've made that adjustment because of their scarcity before.
elloco999
I didn't feel like matches were scarce before the update either. I started my game in v.138 and when the v.152 update came I was at 122 days and still had 40+ matches. They were all at 5% by that time. I also still had an untouched box of wood matches at Trappers Homestead.By now I'm at 155 days and probably the 34 matches I had left of those 40+ will have deteriorated by now as I left them at the Camp Office when I went to the Coastal Highway map.Still, it would be nice if there were more fire starting options. Like making a firebow.
