A compass!

It would be nice to have a compass and a Cardinal symbol (even just a simple arrow pointing north) on the maps to help with navigation. half the time I end up in the complete opposite direction that I thought I was heading. Being able to zoom in and out on a map would also be a nice feature.

The main reason there is no compass is because of the event that has happened and the magnetic disturbances causing any compass to spin uselessly.

Though having a compass in the game that would spin...and settle on a direction only to spin again would be great!

I didn't think of that, I haven't completed Wintermute yet and discovered what is actually happening on Great Bear.

Someone posted another thread (don't want to go find it) but I guess if you drop sticks, wood, etc. they will always orient themselves in a North-South direction.  Bit of an exploit I guess...

The in game maps give a good idea of North and South (assuming the map is "orientated north")

If you put a leaf in water and add something that gets attracted by the poles like metals (a part of a metal clip could be used) one side will face north and the other south. you can look this up on the internet and it should be quite easy to find

Interesting, but don't think we can do that in-game.
