J's Folly and please help

Hey, I have a problem with J's folly quest. The thing is when I was making this in September everything was alright. When I was right in front of the bear at the beginning, I pulled the trigger and he was running away, but now it's different. I shoot him, and then he mauls me. Even if I run away, he is mauling me. Am I doing something wrong?

You have to shoot him literally right away. If you wait a split second he will attack you. It's very flimsy. I had trouble figuring this out.

Or use the flare gun on him instead.  Its more fun and far safer.

Nevermind guys. His body is spoiling somewhere in clearcut north from J's house. Now, I'm waiting for Aurora to get out of this damn bunker
