Theory about Wintermute

What if Wintermute is a military-grade secret project, created to force the Great Bear's inhabitants to leave the island? This project (or weapon) can cause geo-magnetic disturbances, and the eco-terrorists had known about this for awhile, including Jeremiah. What do you think about this?

Perhaps, but why would military want to kick the Great Bear inhabitants off? Even so, that doesn’t explain the aroura. The aroura is what’s causing the geo-magnetic stuff, since when the aroura was active, it malfunctioned McKenzie’s plane, and causes all electric items to power on. Now I don’t do my own theories too much, but I am curious about that (SPOILER ALERT FOR EP2) device under Jeremiah’s floor boards, and his bunker

An experience from HAARP (a geomagnetic giant tool) ?

Maybe they wanted to exploit the Great Bear's resources (coal, etc.) . We have as an example the Carter Dam (SPOILER-which was abandoned due to the "Forest talkers" activities). Regarding the Jeremiah's device, I believe it was a radio.

Eh.... no... we know that it's not a local thing but is global. And based on the information presented on the kickstarter page of the game we know that it's indeed a natural occurrence, this is further backed up by Methuselah's speech on humanity sinning (exploting resources) and the price being paid.

I personally think that Wintermute is a secret military codeword that is used to contact the mainland in the event of an extreme emergency on Great Bear OR it is a military codeword meaning "apocalypse has begun". I think Jeremiah is ex-mil as well as his friend Atwood. (I actually have potential evidence of this being the case but I'm not allowed sharing it here on the forums).

I wouldn't like something really cliche like the whole "apocalypse controlled by the government" type ordeal. The Long Dark has never been about the wrath of people for greed but rather the force of mother nature and how our dependance on technology can cause our downfall once it is laid bare.

That is NOT what HAARP is... it interacts with the ionosphere but it cannot CAUSE geomagnetic disturbances at all. If it did we would be seeing aurora borealis further south very frequently...

There's no doubt that Jeremiah is more than he says he is. When McKenzie tells him about the power coming on during the aurora, he plays dumb or says he knows nothing of it. However, when instructing McKenzie what to do to get to Perseverance Jeremiah knew EXACTLY what needed to be done. And how does Jeremiah know the code for the control room anyways if he's just a simple trapper.
