francoisb
Hi! I have recently crossed 200 hours of in-game time. One problem that I started noticing more and more: time does not advance uniformly. Make a 4 hour fire. Sleep 3 hours. Fire still has 2 hours of burn time left. Make a 6 hour fire. Research for 5. Fire still has 3 hours of burn time left. I'm trying to get the "Silent Hunter" achievement (50 days without firing the gun). The daily log is on day 48, but when I see "You have survived for xxd" message, it only says 45 days. I started this run on the version prior to RUGGED SENTINEL. Has anyone else noticed these problems? Thanks! François
cullam
The fire issue you are noticing is a known thing - we think by design. Fires last differing amounts of time, depending on the temperature they're in. When burned indoors, they should last for how long they say. When burning outside, where it's colder, they burn for longer. I believe that additional length is tied to just how cold it is. I have no idea what's up with the Days Survived discrepancy. stratvox
Outdoor fires definitely get a buff for how long they burn. I'm pretty sure this is by design... helps a lot if you're living in a cave (which I did once for thirty days in ravine).

The boosts are not random. They depend on the outside conditions. If temperature outside goes down, less of the "estimated fuel" is actually used up - meaning you will have more of the fuel left on the fire then you initially thought. I dont know the exact values, but it fits. If you were to make a fire for two hours during the early morning and go to sleep, the temperature would keep falling down and you should wake up with the fire, nearly dying if you went to sleep for 2 hours as well. TLD is full of subtle conditions that all work together. Its what makes it so immersive. 15 hours ago, francoisb said: I'm trying to get the "Silent Hunter" achievement (50 days without firing the gun). So, lets say you started a day in the evening, its a Day 1. But, you will only have a couple of minutes of "survived". However, days survived actually mean how long you lived for. Day survived literally means "alive for 24 hours". If you spawned at 11PM in the night, on, and right now you are on Day 3 and its 1AM in the morning (midnight) - then you will have Day 3 in your log, but you will be alive for 1 Day and 2 hours. (26 hours, 1 hour of Day 1, 24 hours od Day 2, and 1 hour of Day 3 so far). Time indeed works correctly. Estimated burn time is not a measurement of time, its a measurement of how much firewood is on the fire - if the fire is burning with good temperature, and you made it with decent skill, and the outside conditions are improving, you will likely wake up with a considerable amount of fire left on the campfire. dead frozen dude
Fire duration vs. air temperature - this was investigated during @Drifter Man's epic sojourn on TWM.
