Improvised scarves and mittens

You know those "cloth" things hanging by doors - those are scarves and I would love to be able to use them as such early in the game.  (more of an issue on Interloper setting).  Oh, and using socks as mittens.  Basically socks are mittens without thumbs.  I've gotten frostbite because I can't find mittens but I have 2 or more pairs of socks.

Wearing socks as mittens Schuld be an option because why not? I would wear a pair under normal mittens if it was really cold outside
