Survival Mode with a Dependent

What does everyone think about a Survival Mode (or Challenge), where you have a dependent, someone that can't move themselves around or gather any supplies. You would have to keep returning to the same location with food, water and medical supplies to keep them alive. You could stock up on supplies to leave them alone for longer periods of time, allowing you to range further afield. There would be a countdown on how long they can last without you, based off of the amount of food, water and meds you left them.

Thoughts?

I can see it as a challenge mode, perhaps. It doesn't really fit in for the survival modes we have currently. It -could- work if we are ever able to fine-tune our survival experience, though, with such options being available at the set up of the game.

I'm generally against NPCs in survival mode, but this could definitely be an interesting challenge.

Taking care of a child, for instance, would add a whole new dynamic to the quiet desperation of the game.  I haven't played The Little Ones DLC for This War of Mine yet, but I'm imagining something like that.

Definitely some potential here.

Great idea. In fact it would be cool if Story Mode worked like that. It seems weird that you can go on an excursion for days and on your return Grey Mother and Jeremiah always sit there in the same position. Same stuff in their cupboards, same cans on their shelves. They should have a calorie and water store which you can fill up and which depletes by a certain amount every  day. And when it runs empty, they die.

Welcome to the forums @Nanashi ^_^

It's an interesting idea. Back a year or so ago when NPCs were first announced having them behave as dependents was discussed as well. Personally, I'm a big fan of @Hotzn's proposal as it would make the world seem more real and dynamic. That being said, I don't think children would be added to the game. Too many difficulties with ratings if they can actually perish.
