Kaiservadin
In the owl mode wolfs attack on sight but what i notice is there mostly in packs and to me that seems a little be overkill as this is not interloper where you can expect that. So i was just wondering if this is how it is suppose to work as i find myself dieing to wolfs a lot and this is even after i kill over 3 in a row. Its like if you do not have a weapon on you, then you will die. Really annoying.

TROY
I don't believe I've ever seen more than 3 wolves together on Voyageur. There are only a couple places in each region that there will even be that many. So, if you're killing "over 3" and there's still at least one left to kill you, it's not the game, it's you. What I mean by this is that you are either "leading" one group away from where they should be, by letting them detect and follow you, or, the more likely cause is that you aren't managing your odor well. If you are carrying around un cured guts, or fresh meat, after a carcass harvest, it will attract them to you. The best way to mitigate this is either leave the stuff laying in the snow until you are better equipped to carry it through the gauntlet, or get the meat cooked on site and drop the hides and guts off at the NEAREST indoor location to cure. It does also seem like you may need to do some research on proven methods of dealing with wolves without killing/fighting. They are numerous, and most have advantages and disadvantages based on any given situation. As you are moving through the world, you should constantly be aware of your resources and situation and always be thinking about what tactics are best if you meet a wolf/wolves. It's best to avoid a struggle whenever you can, especially if you are more than half way tired out, but if you must fight, do so with a hatchet if possible. The only place where you can get 3 wolves are the heavily populated wolf areas, and there is usually one per region... Coastal town, front of whaling plant, Mystery lake´s cabins (and those rarely have a lot of wolves), Poachers camp, Timberwolf mountain wing section close to Mountaineers hut, etc. In only few places you can run into more then 3 wolves on Voyageur. But since the addition of smell mechanics, the wolves became harder to sneak past because they will now easily detect you even if you have cooked meat on you. The more smelly things you have, the more likely they are to notice you, and from further distance. In early games, before you get a weapon, it is better to not carry around any baits or smelly items (unless you intend to give them up to wolves villingly) but instead, gather stones. Stones hitting the ground create noise, and wolves now investigate noise - so you can throw rocks in a direction where you want the wolves to go, and then sneak by as they are walking towards the place where you are throwing stones. Stone physics work very similarly to real life - so you can throw the rocks the furthest if you throw them in about 45 degree angle.

I agree with you, i hate wasting ammo but scaring them off is better then losing about 50% con from a attack that will take 48 hours to recover. You should very seldom need to do that.. there are lots of easier ways to avoid wolves than using the rifle to scare them off. Read and apply what you learn in the "Scary Wolves" thread that @shade_grey linked to above.
