However.. in the meantime, your power supply concerns me.

I'd like to preface my comments by noting that even an expensive PSU from a company with an excellent reputation may fail. Dud components occasionally happen to anyone. I had a brand-new excellent quality PSU fail after just a couple of months.

When a PSU fails, it can often do so very slowly.. and you'd need to have a digital voltmeter to know there were problems developing. (Speaking of which, are you up for that, if we ask you to?)

I looked up your PSU - in general, despite not being one of the better-known manufacturers, they seem to have a reasonable reputation, but some insist their gear has issues. So I went digging around some more.

And found this review. By people who know what they're doing, and do a proper teardown on it, and not just plug it in to see how it goes. I can highly recommend reading their "A Detailed Look Into PSUs" article, as well.

First of all, it's disappointing to see no ripple protection in the PSU. If excessive (50mV), voltage ripple can lead to subtle damage to other components in hard to diagnose ways. Voltage being too high or low can cause components (including RAM) to have errors. Abnormally high or low voltages can cause system shutdown and in extreme cases may burn out components.

Secondly, the quality of the hand-soldered (!) solder work in the review sample was shockingly poor. I honestly shuddered when I saw the pics. Just the sight of it made me want to reach for my soldering iron.

One of my other hats says "electronics nut" on it.. And I can assure you that bad solder joints can lead to all kinds of problems with a circuit, weird problems.. long before total failure occurs. Voltages being outside of acceptable limits seems a likely outcome.

In your shoes, I wouldn't trust that PSU until I'd opened it up and inspected the workmanship for myself. Is it still in warranty, or how old is it?

I read that review.....WOW.

My dad had his own electronics company when I was growing up. At it's height he had about 50 employees. He fixed dot-matrix printers and their circuit boards. He would never allow anything to look like that monstrosity....and that's why I wasn't allowed to solder. I did make cool alien blobs out of the solder though....

Yeah I saw. That was a pretty bad looking unit in general. I would have sent it back and said  "as is" it's getting a 5 out of 10 for poor craftsmanship....

Apparently Enermax doesn't even produce it's own PSUs anymore....that's a shame. The last time I built a PC was about 2001, lol. In computer technology years that's forever ago.....

Im 120% sure its not hardware, only thing left is to stress test my PSU, ill leave it to the guys from where i bought it from

Cool....yeah I think all that may be left is sending the things @Patrick Carlson stated you should mail to them. It may be an issue that they have to look into on their end.

Your computer should definitely be able to run the game, and it appears to be functioning in all other games....

Sorry we made you check so many things lol....troubleshooting is fun sometimes though. It's like solving a puzzle. Jafo and I like puzzles....

Sorry we failed to pinpoint the issue. It has to be related to the game software....all your hardware seems to be working...

I still feel like that model graphics card historically had a lot of black screen issues. Nvidia often updates it's drivers to benefit large mainstream games. It still could be Nvidia driver related....but if it IS, fixing it could involve communication between Nvidia and Hinterland.

Like Nvidia may need to tailor the drivers for that particular card in relation to The Long Dark...but I feel like if that was the problem, more people would have the same issue. That is probably a pretty popular card model....

Pays to keep updated.

Those persons saying stick with Win XP or Win 7/8 good luck on that, that's what they want you to think. So they can continue hacking those Windows versions.

Don't worry about Nicko, he thinks everything is a virus or a trojan and he thinks you get them because of the wrong OS. That's one of his standard responses to anything wrong with a computer....

I've never gotten a virus or a trojan on any PC or with any OS, since I started looking at porn on my phone....

That was one of the threads I read a couple days ago, but I didn't want to have to tell him to return a graphics card that seems to be able to run a bunch of games except The Long Dark....lol.

I was wondering if turning off "tessellation" would help, but from what I just read the NVIDIA control panel doesn't have a setting for it, but AMD cards do....which is lame....

Downclocked a good amount and still the same issue xd, i have no idea what is wrong with this game

Bummer.. but it's not necessarily "the game" as such. Hardware and software can interact in weird ways sometimes. I've seen certain brands/models of motherboards that just didn't get along with certain brands of antivirus, but worked fine with others.. in theory, it shouldn't make any difference. But sometimes it does. Nobody knows why.

I don't know how the staff taking a month off will affect you getting assistance on this issue though....

I hope they release that last patch before going on vacation....

I fixed it, tried every single resolution and only 1280x1024 wont crash, thanks guys
