Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO - "Frosty Rolls the Dice on Crystal Lake" This Bear Den is NE of Crystal Lake and is the first Bear Frosty has encountered in the TWM region. Knock-knock, time to wake up and start your day The Bear sniffed out the scent of Frosty nearby and investigates his last position for a moment before continuing on toward Crystal Lake The Bear reaches the lake and soon frightens off the other wildlife within the area before pacing about for a short time The Bear begins to head toward the direction of the dock now and Frosty is very concerned about how close he is coming to his shelter at the Mountaineers Hut The Bear suddenly veers to the right and begins to head toward the shore now, passing by the fishing hut too close for Frosty's comfort and he takes a mental note to be more careful when bringing fish back to the Hut until this Bear is hunted down The Bear heads toward the mountain now and sniffs his way back in the direction of his home along the cliffs edge of the Echo Ravine The Bear enters its Den for the day and Frosty returns to the lake to consider his options for the hunt to come Frosty thinks that using the rifle from nearby the Mountaineers Hut might be the best option as he could easily duck inside after making the shot, but the felled tree on the lake gets his attention and he decides to consider an alternate approach Studying the tree carefully he wonders if it will be high enough to be out of the Bear's reach and discovers that he can walk right underneath it at this point, so he tests it on the nearby wolves which lose interest in him as he climbs on top but will it deter the Bear as well? The hunt is on and Frosty decides to take the gamble and strike at the Bear from the felled tree TWM Bear 1 Route Map Red=Start Blue=Patrol Green=Return Frosty had his doubts as the Bear began to charge and nearly has a heart attack, but the plan works after all although it could have gone smoother Frosty has enough food to last him comfortably for awhile now, so he sets his sight on tracking the second Bear he has seen nearby the waterfalls below Andres Peak that seems to travel along the frozen river Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO
JaySovereign
I don't have a picture of it, but I decided to hunt a bear with a bow an arrow last night. I waited for him to get close by luring him with the stones, nailed him in the head, saw him run off thinking I'd failed and came back later to find him on the ground. Needless to say I was surprised. Edit: I tried again and this time got him down on the spot! I got proof this time:
Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO - "Frosty Takes the High Ground" This Bear Den is located NW of Crystal lake and can be found by following the river to the falls below Andre's peak Good morning sunshine, where are you off to today? The Bear's first stop is close by the river and after pacing about for awhile it will begin its trek SE along it towards Crystal Lake At this spot the Bear will turn Westward up the hill and patrol Northward all the way back to its Den The Bear will hangout here for awhile before moving on it likes this spot It gets tight around this area as the Bear hugs the Western face of the mountain where a few wolves like to hunt Just ahead is the Bear's 1st stop along the river, it will be back home soon The Bear is nearly at its Den but what it does after it gets there surprises Frosty very much Good to be home for the Bear and it sniffs about for a time before doing the unexpected after days of Tracking by Frosty It starts out again on its route but not the way it usually does After reaching the 1st stop along the river, the Bear heads NE instead of going down the river The Bear climbs this hill and hangs out in a Dead End area which is directly behind the cave where Frosty is camping Here is the cave where Frosty is staying and where the Bear gets a little too close for comfort. After a couple more days of Tracking the Bear it doesn't replicate this 2nd route again, but caution should be taken when around this cave in the future from now on Frosty calls it a night and plots his ambush of the Bear for the next day TWM Bear 2 Route Map #1 Red=Start Blue=Patrol Green=Return TWM Bear 2 Route Map #2 This felled tree that hangs above the river should do nicely for taking down this Bear The Bear nearly made it back home but collapsed close to the falls nearby its Den That was the most difficult Bear for Frosty to track yet as there are lots of wolves to dodge and the terrain gets too confined which makes photography challenging. Maybe he deserves a raise at this point Frosty has 1 more Bear to Track down on TWM as it turns out that the 4th Bear he encountered before is also the 3rd Bear with two different routes so Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO
JAFO
You're becoming something of an expert on bear pathing routes.. This is valuable knowledge which deserves to be preserved and shared. Frosty
Hey @JAFO That's a great idea I have the maps too aside from BR which will have to be the charcoal version I'll definitely get around to updating the thread with the routes on the map at some point in the future I have a lot of moving loot around to do from TWM and an Outpost to establish at the Camp Office in ML for exploring FM and BR next, so there probably won't be another episode for awhile after the last Bear on TWM so I may draw the routes on the maps in the meantime while setting up for my next "TLD NATGEO assignment" TLD NATGEO Assignments Document the Bears from BR and FM Document the two other Bears from CH Document ML Bears Solve the "Mystery of the Lake" Wish me luck on that one Track Moose when in season

JaySovereign
Speaking of bears, I tried hunting one in Timberwolf Mountain yesterday and lodged myself up in a tree before taking the shot. I didn't get any screenshots as I was sort of freaking out because of course the bear charged and was trying to get me in the tree. After a few more shots, he finally went down, but it just goes to show that the game can still scare you no matter how long you've played it. Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO - "Final Bear Showdown on TWM" This Bear Den is located along the Northernmost mountain border of the map East of Eric's Falls. The 3rd and final Bear resides here and has two separate routes within its territory Approaching the Den from the East will push the Bear along its Western route towards Eric's Falls, whereas coming at the Den from the West will push the Bear along its Eastern route towards the Deer Clearing area Frosty tracks the Bear to the Falls and watches as it patrols nearby one of the cargo crates for awhile The Bear crosses the water looking for deer that forage within the area, but Frosty beat the Bear to it as he hunted a buck down earlier nearby The Bear begins its journey back home by crossing the water again where it comes fairly close to the Waterfall Cave nearby where Frosty is currently camping The Bear's Den is ahead so Frosty returns to the Falls and begins planning how to take a shot at the Bear from that area A felled tree close by the cargo crate should allow Frosty to be out of the Bear's reach within the Falls area. Frosty has been meaning to tryout his newly acquired Flare Gun and decides to conduct an experiment by using it on the Bear A direct hit on the Bear but the flare doesn't attach itself to the animal and merely bounces off making the Bear flee However Frosty has determined that the Flare Gun is clearly the most valuable tool amongst his gear. The very sound of the gun firing scares away all predators and may even cause damage if the flare itself manages to attach to the animal A new dawn rises and Frosty begins to track the Bear along its Eastern route After descending the hill the Bear sniffs out food within this area for awhile, scattering the wolves and rabbits nearby The Bear tires of this area and soon moves on Eastward along the mountainside Don't get too close Frosty the wind can change at any moment Here is the Bear at its final destination along its Eastern route, where it gets a little too close to 1 of the 2 cargo containers nearby. The Bear likes to hangout at this spot for quite some time before returning back home the same way it came Frosty returns to his camp at the Waterfall Cave for rest and to plan his ambush of the Bear for the next day. He decides to try a different approach with this Bear, and attaches a mountaineering rope which descends down along the Bears route nearby its Den. The final Bear hunt on TWM begins TWM Bear 3 Route Map #1 Red=Start Blue=Patrol Green=Return TWM Bear 3 Route Map #2 The Bear forgets all about Frosty to his surprise the instant he begins climbing the rope, and heads back to its Den where it soon begins its route all over again. The Bear bleeds out and collapses into the snow after making it down the hill not far from its Den Frosty carves up the Bear and treks back to his camp at the Waterfall Cave. He has a lot of logistical planning to do now as he ponders how to organize and transport all of his loot acquired on TWM back to his Outpost Bunker in Pleasant Valley It may be awhile before Frosty reports from the field again as he has a lot to do before setting up his next assignment within the Broken Railroad region, where he plans to loot & scoot once he tracks down the Bear there so Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO
JaySovereign
Finally dug into my screenshot folder. The first one is the luckiest shot I have proof of, seeing as the arrow is right between the eyes. Usually, they just bounce off the animal after hitting it, or appear on the ground next to it. The second one doesn't really need any words other than: Scary As Hell. (His head clipped through the tractor a second later but I failed to catch that. He was really just an inch from mauling me.) Frosty
TLD NATGEO Special Update Ron Burgundy - Good evening, we have just received a report from Frosty out in Great Bear who has sent us some 'map sketches' that are not bad at all and apparently show Bear activity on the island. They're crude with their coloring, but effective enough in detail to assist avoiding all those rascally Bears out there. All our episodes documenting Bears have been updated with the maps. Frosty reports that he has reached the Old Spence Family Homestead within Forlorn Muskeg with his supplies, and after setting up a bit will continue on into the Broken Railroad region for his next assignment. Well, God speed Frosty and Stay Classy Canada, I am Ron Burgundy and this has been a big deal report.
Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO - "Frosty Rides the Rails & Walks with Wolves" The Broken Railroad region is the end of the line for travel on Great Bear due to landslides and a crumbling bridge, but it has more to offer in loot and sustainability than it originally appears. Upon entering from Forlorn Muskeg a deer can be found along the railway for an easy meal, but unfortunately no cave for shelter is nearby. This Maintenance Yard structure is the first of the two shelters in the region survivors will come across once off the railway, and although it has a lot of resources and storage it isn't the best place to setup a base due to the many wolves surrounding the area which will make return trips for the day difficult. They will become your pestering neighbors and even block the exit back to the railway, but there is a passage back to be found by following the river Westward to its end. The various exits from the building will assist in sneaking out of the area for the day, but always be alert when leaving as the wolves roam outside of the fence as well Thankfully the yard has a few ways to stay out of the wolves reach, such as this pipe nearby the Northern access through the fence Not far from the yard to the East is this felled tree which provides a decent range of surveying the area, and helps escape the wolves around the outskirts of the yard It also is useful for hunting the deer that forage nearby. Heading NE from here towards the river will allow safe passage North towards the Upper area of the region avoiding any wolves that may be wandering close to the bridge. A rabbit grove is also within the area there, but wolves patrolling the shore may beat you to them A pack of 2-4 wolves dominate the lake area most of the time, but deer do graze nearby the Hunters blind on the Northern shore. The Western side of the region across the river has very little to offer, as this poor traveller learned the hard way This gate leads to the most secure area within the region, and although it has a few wolves and even a Moose wandering around it is easy to slip by the danger and reach one of the best shelters on the Island - the Hunting Lodge Heading to the left of this sign and hugging the mountain will grant safe access to the Lodge and the great view beyond. The wolves roam the water area seen here and may notice anyone entering the Lodge from the front door, so using the back entrance is advised if you want to slip in unseen The back entrance has a picnic table to have a rest and enjoy the view, along with a rock to attach a rope to for quick traversal back and forth between the Upper and Lower areas of the region. Once below and heading to the East is where the Hunters Blind is located near the lake, as well as a Cave close by which works great as an outpost In the distance looking South the Broken Rail Bridge can be seen, and to the left is the Maintenance Yard. When climbing down be alert for a Bear that may be seen nearby, as its Den is located to the West of the Lake Once inside ensure to search carefully, bullets are hiding loosely throughout the Lodge and a Rifle may be found on the Gun Rack over the Fireplace or leaning against a wall in the basement The front porch is a safe spot once the wolves pick up your scent from the water, and if a rope wasn't found inside the Lodge for a quick descent out of the area it is best to leave from the back entrance and hug the mountain to the road leading to the gate. When on the railway heading into or out of the region you will encounter a wolf or two hampering your progress, and although wolves will kill and eat you if they can, befriending them temporarily with a snack will assist traversal along the rails to your destination Frosty will be back next episode to track and hunt the sole Bear within the region so Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO
Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO - "Frosty Can't Let Sleeping Bears Lie" This Bear Den is located in the NW corner of the Lower region of Broken Railroad just West of the rock climb that leads up to the Hunting Lodge, where the laziest Bear Frosty has ever documented so far resides Day 1 - After hours of waiting the Bear finally awakes and emerges from its Den But it only sniffs around for a little before going back inside to nap some more Day 2 - Frosty is getting frustrated with this Bear after nearly another full day of watching it sleep, so he decides to throw rocks nearby the Den entrance to hopefully wake it up so the Bear can begin its route Success!! The Bear is awake now and is not happy, emerging from its Den to come roar at Frosty But the Bear doesn't think Frosty is worth mauling and isn't feeling up for going out today, so it goes right back inside for more hibernating Day 3 - The Bear finally leaves its Den for its romp around the area and Frosty is very happy he doesn't have to watch it sleep anymore The Bear heads East towards the lake passing nearby the rock climb up to the lodge so be aware when climbing down from above, but since this Bear seems to sleep most of the time people shouldn't worry too much The Bear patrols the lake most of the day, sending the wolves that usually roam the shore to seek food elsewhere The wolves return every so often with the hope of reclaiming their territory, but the Bear isn't done sniffing out the area for food yet The Bear heads to shore now and begins to patrol this area for awhile before heading back to its Den for the day Frosty is concerned the Bear will never leave its Den again for him to hunt, and considers shooting the Bear from here but decides to wait it out There are a couple large rocks within decent range of this Bear Den to ambush from, and one could even hit the Bear while it sleeps inside when perched atop the felled tree just outside the Den entrance, but Frosty decides to strike from the Hunter's Blind at the lake unless this lazy Bear doesn't leave home again The hunt is on the next day either way Red=Start Blue=Patrol Green=Return The Bear doesn't last too long and collapses close by the Blind and the cave where Frosty plans to harvest its carcass The wolves have returned to the lake and are too close for Frosty's comfort, so he quarters the Bear up and hauls it to the cave nearby This cave is not far from the Hunter's Blind but it is easy to miss, as Frosty did during his first time exploring the region The Bear is nearly 38 kg taking all night and into morning to cook, which almost made up for how long it took Frosty to document and hunt down Frosty is returning to the Forlorn Muskeg region soon to track down the two Bears he has seen there, so Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO

Frosty
Thanks @JAFO Yes sir, I will be tracking and hunting the Moose as well but I'm still waiting for the update on Ps4 From the info I have gathered so far from PC users, the Moose appear to have distinct spawn areas within the Regions, so documenting those locations so people know where they all spawn should be useful. I don't think they have "patrol" routes like Bears (please correct me if I am wrong) within the Regions where you will always find 1 Moose per map moving in the same pattern like Bears do and seem to wander between all Regions with no regular frequency from what I have heard. It sounds like they won't be as easy to find so I plan to focus on the Bears within a specific Region and just keep my eyes open and hunt them when I see one until I understand how they spawn I also have heard players state that they don't bleed and leave a blood trail and if anyone here can confirm that I would like to know as that sounds strange

omoon66
The good ol’ pass time technique. Shot the bear in the barn by Trapper’s, passed time and he dropped very close to the cabin. So here’s my current stock pile at Trapper’s Outside: Keep in mind this is only day 9. Here’s my main base at the camp office Waiting for stuff to cure. Should have mitts in a few day, and later boots. Soon, either a moose cloak (if I can find the danm things) or wolfskin coat. By then I should have a bow and a decent supply of arrows. Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO - "A Diamond in the Rough" The Forlorn Muskeg region doesn't make a good first impression, as the welcome from this dreary swamp usually involves thick fog, fierce winds, and frostbite on the toes from traversing the wet thin ice. However, Blizzards are infrequent compared to other regions and once knowledge of the dangerous paths are marked, travelling will become less treacherous. Always carrying materials for constructing a snow shelter in the event of a blizzard or more likely while being lost in the middle of the marsh once the fog rolls in is highly advisable. The way forward will appear grim and one may even feel demoralized as they trek across its wide expanse seeking respite. But if following the tracks one of the few shelters within the region to provide that will be found - a derailed train car named Poachers Camp. It will feel like a small comfort if residing here for long periods, as the howling of wolves patrolling nearby will demonstrate, but it has a fire barrel to dry out those wet boots and hopefully useful supplies awaiting the weary survivor. This Shortwave Tower in the North of the region may have supplies to be found, and deer have been seen foraging around the area. One of the few Caves capable for shelter is due East of its location, but be aware that a Bear Den is nearby as well The view from Muskeg Overlook in the SE corner of the region is worth a visit, and one may even find the remains of an Abandoned Camp somewhere in the vicinity when travelling up there. It also has deer and rabbit living within the area and a Hunters Blind not too far from shore Heading Westward from the Overlook one will find two other Caves for shelter where wolves patrol often, as well as a group of dilapidated Bunkhouses with resources to be found hiding amongst the remnants of the buildings The Old Spence Family Homestead adjoins the Bunkhouses and is one of the few welcoming sights within the region. It has a furnace to warm the collapsed shelter when sleeping, and a Forge for crafting the necessary tools. One may find valuable supplies here and around the surrounding area, and is one of the most important landmarks in the entire region. Deer will forage right outside the structure and nearby the Cave not too far to the West where one can Cure the Hides, but so will the wolves so remain alert But there is hope for a more comfortable stay during an expedition to this region that can be found here, and locating this waterfall NW of the Shortwave Tower is the Key to its discovery. A Cave system brimming with coal to work the Forge in the South will lead you there, and once exploring the area new ways of reaching this oasis without entering the Cave will be found It is called Marsh Ridge and besides the shelter from the harsh winds its natural enclosure provides, it has many resources to be discovered. Firewood is plentiful, Deer and Moose forage the area and rabbits roam in groups unscathed due to the utter absence of hostile wildlife Access to the more welcoming region of Milton Basin can also be found here, and with a short climb one will discover Deer and natural remedies in abundance there, with only a short walk back to Camp at the Ridge Camping inside the Cave system is an option but this natural recess within the rock serves as shelter from the wind and has containers for 30kg of storage, and with a Snow Shelter built here becomes the best option for a safe Base within this region Just below the Ridge to the South not far from the rope descent is where this Hunters Blind is located, which has Deer that will forage within range of the structure The path towards the Broken Railroad region may seem daunting when traversing through this desolate landscape, with the lonely railway seemingly unending during the march along its fractured tracks. But this region is more than just a road leading to the end of the line, and although the sun seldom shines here it is always more bright and comforting when it does, especially when viewed from the safety within the Oasis of Marsh Ridge - a true diamond in the rough of this wetland Frosty will return next episode to document the first of the two Bears within this region so Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO
Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO - "Hunting in a Wet Wonderland" This Bear Den is located North of Poachers Camp in Forlorn Muskeg, and is the home of the first Bear that survivors will likely encounter when venturing to this region Frosty watches the Bear leave its Den for the day from the safety atop of this felled tree right along the railway The Bear crosses the ice in front of its Den and heads Southward toward the rail tracks on the hunt for food The Bear patrols here for awhile, perhaps waiting for an unlucky traveler to stumble toward it while walking out of the railway tunnel from Mystery Lake The Bear travels SW leaving the tracks until reaching its second patrol zone here, where it hangs out for awhile as the wolves are scattered elsewhere The Bear is heading NW now back toward the tracks, where one can see it pass by while looking South from the Poachers Camp if the weather permits The Bear is back on the tracks now and heading Westward along the railway towards its final patrol area The Bear's third and final patrol area isn't too far from the tracks so keep your head down when passing by if you see it at this spot The Bear begins its journey back home now by doing a little loop Northward then Eastward around the large patch of ice nearby The Bear's know their territory very well and if one watches them closely they can reveal the safe areas to cross the ice within this region On the opposite side of this hill the Bear is climbing is where the Bear Den is located The Bear heads inside back to sleep now while Frosty plans for the upcoming hunt There are not too many good spots to ambush this Bear from other than the felled tree nearby the railway or perhaps shooting across the ice from the Poachers Camp, but Frosty wants to get the Bear to collapse closer to his Camp within the cave North of the Bear Den, so he decides to strike from up here as the Bear returns home for the day. Just around the left corner and up this point of the hill will get Frosty to the collapsed trees where he will ambush the Bear tomorrow Red=Start Blue=Patrol Green=Return Frosty found the Bear dead the next morning nearby the felled tree along the tracks ironically, time to harvest the meat and haul it back to the cave This cave is on the Northern side of the same mountain that has the Bear Den, and is the only cave North of the tracks besides the Cave system leading to Marsh Ridge This Bear was somewhat difficult to track due to the marsh and lousy visibility within the region, requiring Frosty to rest up at the Poachers Camp to dry off his wet boots to avoid Frostbite or wait for the weather to clear The last Bear within Forlorn Muskeg will be documented by Frosty next episode so Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO
Frosty
Today on TLD NATGEO 's Holiday Special - "From Dawn Till Dusk" This Bear Den is located on the Western side of the map, and can be found by heading south from the railway area leading into the Broken Railroad region The Bear is leaving its Den for the day, beginning the long journey through the marsh which will lead all the way Northward across the railway and back The Bear knows the safe spots to cross the ice within its territory and is headed toward its first patrol area for the day The Bear patrols near the edge of the ice at this spot, which is on the Northern side of the patch of land. Be aware if travelling Northward across the marsh from the Old Spence Family Homestead, as you may not see the Bear due to the slight hill The Bear is leaving to head NE towards the railway now, but will stop for a second patrol for food before reaching the tracks The weather is pleasant today for this region of the island, and Frosty is hoping it stays that way as he continues to track the beast The Bear reaches its second patrol area and is soon sniffing out its surroundings for anything edible The Bear leaves now and it has only a short walk to reach its third patrol zone right on the railway The Bear paces along the tracks looking Eastward as it sniffs the air, does it expect an unlucky visitor coming from that direction? The Bear treks Westward across the tracks now, heading towards its fourth patrol area at the Hunters Blind nearby The Bear avoids the weakened ice areas of the marsh as it crosses to reach the Hunters Blind area Perhaps the Bear has found scraps of leftover food here in the past, or knows that humans like to use this spot and hopes to encounter one someday The Bear leaves and heads Southward back toward the railway, it has one final patrol zone nearby the tracks before it will return to its Den for the day The lovely weather miraculously continues to hold during Frosty's tracking of the Bear in this wetland, as the Bear now reaches its final patrol zone The Bear has completed its route for the day and is now returning back SW to the safety of its Den The Bear is back on the patch of land where its Den resides and will soon call it a day and go back to hibernating again Frosty dares to approach the sleeping Bear for a close up shot, discovering that awakening a Bear isn't so easy as he stumbles and curses at himself for his clumsiness Frosty returns to his camp and thinks of how best to ambush this Bear during his hunt. Shooting it from the Hunters Blind North of the tracks is certainly an option, perhaps a shot from atop one of the derailed train carts as the Bear wanders by would work, or even the high ridge surrounding its Den might be a safe spot as well Frosty wants to strike from a distance to minimize the risk of being caught on the weak ice if being chased by the brute, so he scouts to the South of the Den and finds a spot across the ice on a ridge where he can view the Bear as it leaves for the day. He believes this area will do nicely and that he will have a decent shot at the Bear while it crosses the ice. The hunt begins tomorrow morning Red=Start Blue=Patrol Green=Return The shot strikes true and Frosty gingerly climbs down to investigate the blood marked on the ice so he may start to track the Bear. The blood drips are small and spaced far apart from each other, so it doesn't appear that the bullet hit a vital area of the Bear and that it will take awhile to bleed-out unfortunately The typical weather of this region returns today as Frosty begins to track the Bear through the fog until it collapses What a monster of a Bear at nearly 40KG Frosty reports that this is the largest Bear he has taken down so far. The Bear has collapsed nearby the Hunters Blind and as the darkness falls and the wolves begin to howl, he decides to haul the meat there for the cookout instead of risking the long trek back to his Camp Frosty cooks up the Bear as the wolves circle the Hunters Blind, and he carpets the floor with the meat in the hope that it will be out of their reach once the fire is out. That was a long day of hunting and tracking the wounded Bear, starting from Sunup to Sundown and Frosty is very tired. He returns to his Camp at Marsh Ridge for the night and a long sleep. We will be back later today for another episode as the Holiday Special continues so Stay Tuned for more on TLD NATGEO
