Falling through door/floor

All in all I've been enjoying the story mode immensely and then this....

I got to the hydro dam, the aurora is in effect i open the office i activate the lift everything is good, then when i try to open a door with an exit sign i fall through the floor. i keep falling i keep falling and then I'm back and standing in front of a door that says leave the dam. so i do. wrong damn door, its the front door for the dam. auto save. so i go back inside to the elevator, and although the aurora is still in effect, and i can click the call elevator button, the elevator just wont return. so basically my game is stuffed. there is no way to progress because of the auto save at the front door. i sincerely hope this is something that can be fixed, and is fixed soon. i would be massively disappointed if this is the end of single player for me.

edit: decided to see if waiting for another aurora might 'fix' things. waited for 4 nights till i got another aurora, but yeah still nothing works.
