sprained ankle when running upward

This happend to me when i was running upward to the forestry lookout. I got a sprained ankle and there was no possible way I could have fallen. Can this condition happen anytime while walking/running on non-flat terrain?

You do not just get sprains by falling. With snow conditions, it can happen tripping over non-flat surfaces, turning or twisting while walking or running, stumbling along hills, dropping from low or high areas, etc.
