Barretts Privateer Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 I'm working on getting through Pleasant Valley right now, making way for Timberwolf to actually make the climb for the first time (I only go there from time to time for the purpose of checking the Mountaineer's Hut for a knife or hatchet). I have a total bonus of clothing of +25° C and +11° C windproof, so am not criticallly worried about that (I'm carrying 6 cloth and a sewing kit as necessities, just to repair damage sustained by any bears or wolves). I was curious, though, as to what I should carry up the mountain with me. I have the rifle, a knife, and hatchet, which I plan to keep, as well as a hacksaw to get my way into the crates at the summit. I figure I can make firewood, water, and food as needed up the summit, so I have a few day's worth only, in case the weather is too poor to start climbing right away. I have two of each medical tea, dressings, and bandages. Also, a firestriker (I made sure to get Level 3 firestarting, negating the need for tinder) and two torches. Other than that, what will I need?
Miniwizard Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Probably best off leaving the rifle and hatchet behind at the mountaineer's hut due to the 30kg weight restriction for climbing ropes and wanting to bring back the loot you obtain. Extra cloth for a snow shelter would be a good bet in case you need to take shelter. Taking some firewood up with you (which can be used or left in exchange for the other goodies) is probably better than taking the hatchet. Oh, and coffee if you have it. Might as well also carry enough water for the trip. You can always dump excess at the top if need be, but it would remove your dependence on fuel boil up new water.
Ahatch Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I would pack some fishing tackles if you have some made as Crystal Lake has good fishing and it will keep you fed when you can't hunt. If you feel you need your rifle I would just store it in the cache near the rope and maybe make an extra trip down for it. There's always a chance you will find one in your travels though so sacraficing it is no big deal. I wouldn't pack that much firewood though that will the least of your problems on Timberwolf. The path to the Mountaineers Hut is usually pretty safe with lots of sticks and if you have an axe Fir and Cedar firewood. Spent 200 days straight on Timberwolf so there is a lot of loot there if you make it all the way to the top. Dress warm and have fun.
