Oooooooh well hype is a good thing. I don't care if its story mode hype as long as it comes with another sandbox release! I'd really like my bow drill and improved cooking.

Well @Docterrok, if you click on the link @selfless kindly provided (and scroll up a little), you will find a thread started by the admin informing all off a countdown.

Follow the link in the countdown thread or simply go to http://www.thelongdark.com/ to see the countdown itself in all it's glory.

TLD is currently on sale right before the countdown finishes.  My guess: The countdown will remove TLD from Early Access status and will finally introduce the Story mode.

I doubt they will add another update to sandbox to be play tested over a month period and then release the Story mode.  That would be cool too though.

It's what I think too, a special mysterious countdown for "just" another sandbox update would be a bit overkill. I rather believe that either they will release Story Mode or TLD will hit the PS4, maybe even both.
