Badges and abilities have been wiped

(I'm playing TLD on Steam so I don't know if this can go here or on the Steam OS section. If so, I apologize.) 

Not too long ago I hopped on to the game to start a new sandbox playthrough and I was greeted with the brightness adjustment option.  Thinking nothing of it, I adjusted the games brightness, only to soon discover that the reason it came up was that my game had essentially been wiped.  I had originally completed all the challenges and earned all the badges, but now they were all gone.  I had also made decent progress on all the abilities, unlocking one and getting 40 - 60% progress on the rest, but now all of them have been reset to 0%.  I only had one saved sandbox game and it was still playable, but the settings on it had been reset to default settings.  Luckily my Steam achievements were still unlocked. 

Is there any way I can get back my badges and ability progress without having to redo everything?
