PlayDiscGolf
Early on in the game, you could throw a flare as a sign of warning to scare off animals, but what if you could master (especially now with the aid of books for research purposes) the art of throwing daggers or axes for intentions of killing an animal. When you are starting the game or just low on ammo, it would be nice if you could "chuck" your handheld weapons at a rabbit, deer or charging wolf... (It'd just piss the bear off before he inevitability mauled you, unless positioned in say a tree blind)
Resethel
That's original I doesn't seems to fit this game though...Throwing stuff at humans is doable since they're slow targets, but at wildlife, not so sure. It sounds like a waste of effort to me. Since one must be really good to boast about being able to kill with thrown knifes. Plus, even if you touch your target, unless it's a rabbit (which is even harder to touch, remember there would be no aim indicator), you'll probably just cause some minor bleeding and the prey will either attack you or flee with you knife (since chances are low you'll get a"critical hit")
hauteecolerider
My pet peeve about throwing weapons is that it leaves you weaponless and disarmed . . . Even if you have a spare pistol in your belt, you've got to waste precious seconds getting it out and arming it . . . By the time you look up to aim the darn thing it's "Oh Sh --" time. Unless you want to add weight to your pathetic little backpack by carrying five hunting knives, two rifles, eight hatchets - oh, let's not forget the three hacksaws and the two prybars! Yes, I'm feeling more than a little sarcastic. Sorry. Been one of those weeks . . .
PlayDiscGolf
If either of you actually chose to read what I wrote, I stated early on in the game (low carrying weight ratio) or when you're low on ammo... If I have a rifle or the eventual pistol, with sufficient ammo to defend myself or hunt for food, why would I need to throw a handheld device e.g. knife or hatchet? I've actually had a good week and am stoned, so I thought I'd retort.
Wastelander
Throwing weapons have been used (and still are used!) in a lot of cultures all around the world for millenia, so the idea isn't that bad per se. However, throwing weapons need to be balanced for throwing, which generally makes them bad for anything else. A notable exception would the the tomahawk, and in formerly French colonial areas, native tribes used a tomahawk that more closely resembled the European Franciska. From personal experience I can say that a Franciska is good as both a throwing weapon and hand-to-hand weapon, but is useless as a tool since it's made to penetrate shields and stick into them, not necessarily break them (unbalancing a shield practically forces your foe to abandon his shield which gives you the upper hand in combat). So, basically, a new item would be needed. This also doesn't make the idea bad. I'd actually love a tomahawk! Alternative uses include defending yourself in a struggle with a wolf, breaking ice-holes open and maybe even as a prybar if it's a full-metal construction.
