midnight
Ok so I just came off my best so far 65 days and died of FOOD POISONING...(Thank you Hinterland for not resetting my game when the launch happened even though I lost half my goods on the update, but I'll take what is given) I accepted the defeat with plenty of food and gear left... there was no way I was getting out of it... but reading some posts I see people are using the "LOAD GAME" to get out of that situation and start fresh... whats up with that? if I were to reload every time I made a wrong turn or decision I think I can easily make it to at least 90 days... is that fair to do? I mean it's there right? but is that the only reason that it's there? So two thingsA) Use it every time a mistake is made or something negative happens and start back from previous saved game.B) Delete that option and deal with the games consequences. All thoughts positive or negative welcomed. Thanks!D-
robdoar
Its necessary to have a game load, otherwise youre alienating playes who cant sit down and play for 4 hours.HTeam is aware that some are exploiting this, buts im sure its low priority while theyre processing mounds of new gamer data with the recent launch.Ive had a few ideas of how to make the quit-cheat less attractive, still waiting for Hteam to reply. Ill let you know.
midnight
Cool thanks! I understand the "Load" button from the initial starting page is good but to have it in the pause menu under the "Quit Game" is making the "Load Game" from last saved spot too easy to not have to deal with a wrong choice... its too easy to restart from the pause menu. Maybe have them quit the game and restart if they want to do that. The game saves every time you sleep right. Maybe the game can save every time your attacked by a wolf, food poisoning, water contamination. Or maybe save every 10 minutes? I fell like I'm that old guy telling kids to lower that loud music LOL! I'm going to play a whole game using the Load Game option and see how it goes... just because I have the option. But I'll be honest and say that I lasted this long because of that...
robdoar
That takes away from the challenge for me. You're much braver if you know you can just re-do you last mistake. You don't get that opportunity in real life.
TattooedMac
There will alway those out there not wanting to play the game correctly and will try to exploit anything and everything they can. Cheat in other words, but as Rob said, there has to be a point somewhere to save for people like me to go and come when I have the time. Truth be told, though, is I make for a stash of stuff and then sleep a hour, before I quit out of it, but rarely do I go back to a saved game if I'm dying. Bug Testing has taken a lot of game play for the Scouts, so I'm looking forward to the future where I can sit down and have a good crack and get the 10 day badge before I need to quit for the night. midnight
I totally hear you on that TattooedMac... I do the same thing. After a good run I sleep for an hour just in case it crashes, because it has in the past when exiting the office cabin for example... and it took me about 20 hours of game play to make 65 days go by. Saving and coming back to it about 10 times. [spoil]Robdoar has a point about being able to redo your last mistake or re-live the last unfortunate turn of event differently ( after rethinking and letting go of that what I thought was cheating). My drama was when people use the LOAD GAME while playing... example... get up from saved game, eat something and get food poisoning. Pause>LOAD GAME... start fresh, eat, no food poisoning, get on with the game. Or after fighting a wolf and about to die... pause> Load game, start from last saved point, it takes away from the tragedy and the meaning of survival in the game. Playing like that makes the character immortal I guess until the player runs out of food, then there is no LOAD GAME and player dies from starvation.I guess then it wouldnt be cheating according to robdoar's theory then, and just getting a second chance?[/spoil] I know I sound like an old fart yelling and being cranky about it HAHA! but It just pushed my WTF button. I guess all is fair then with that option available, and Im just fighting my inner self...
levism84
I feel sort of ignorant for not even realizing you could do that...I don't plan on using it to "undo" a mistake in the game, but it would have been nice to know I could have exited the game to have dinner instead of leaving it at the Esc screen ("Paused") while still running my computer. Use it wisely for when you need to take a break but beware of the Load Game function, one taste and you will never be the same... it's the necessary evil of The Long Dark
The Silverback
I didn't realise you could save the game but why does it bother you if someone else wants to load from a saved game if they screw up. It's a single player game so how does it affect your gameplay? If you don't like it the simple solution is not to use it.

It's a single player game so how does it affect your gameplay? If you don't like it the simple solution is not to use it.it wouldn't screw up my game at all... except for leader board status on who is playing fair or not, its just that the challenge is to survive and deal with consequences, but now there is an alternative using the reload game button, there would be no consequences AND MINIMAL struggle if your about to die by a wolf attack or food poisoning. I was able to survive 65 days pulling teeth and scraping by, if I have that option of reloading every time something goes wrong I'm sure I can break 100 days easily... (but yet to see if the game is as fun doing that) I've accepted the fact and from other peoples feedback it doesn't bother me as much anymore. I just needed this issue to be put into perspective by what others thought, and so far its favorable.
