Makeshift Snow "Sled"

Thought this got posted but guess not.

Anyways, for this idea the concept it to craft a wooden "sled" which is pulled by some form of cordage where it offers the ability to maybe carry more items with you, transport that deer after field dressing, or move a corpse (I know this has been mentioned before as an idea). This could also bring in the ability to transport a very injured person for a use in the story or something.

For crafting it would need a good amount of wood and cordage to put together plus extra cordage from the "sled" giving the ability to pull behind the player.

Since it would be pulled this would prevent running and make walking slower depending on weight. Also due to the fact of it being pulled no items would be allowed to be equipped in your hands (such as the rifle) and the rope / cord would have to be dropped.

Optional ideas could include an animal hide to cover items / person and more cordage to tie things down.

Thoughts??

I suspect the biggest obstacle to including this is the extra physics they'd need to programme for when you meet up with a hill or slope. But it's a popular idea, and I think it would make a lot sense in the scenario.

Good idea.
but without dog or deer as a puller its a waste of calorie!:D

Yeah I do agree. I didn't think about just a simple hill climb and the pull of weight with physics which is a good point. At first, I thought of if a hill was approached and too much angle would have made items to fall off but I quickly dismissed that for being too complicated.

but where should you set it when you want to walk?

Probably something that you couldn't carry in the inventory but rather the only way to move it is dragging it? At that, it wouldn't be able to be brought in a building.

Come to think of it... The game would then have to have an allotted section of memory to remember where it was left last.....

So how about separable sled?
actually does it exist?

Great thought! Actually foldable / collapsible ones do but looking at them probably wouldn't be able to be created from scratch, unless...

Brainstorming here:

Say we used four branches two for the rails / "skis" which it slid on then the other branches was fashioned in an X shape tied together and then an animal hide place on having the corners of this X shaped wooden frame puncture each corner of the hide and then tied on. This could then be the three pieces: the "frame" and then the two skis. The frame could fold up like scissors with the two skis in and everything roll up in the hide once the frame is folded. (Center of frame could be held together with cordage)

Maybe no more than approximately half of what the player carries in the backpack.

Great now I wanted actually try and build this IRL :D

Kicksleds on skis (no ropes, just wooden handles) are used for carrying groceries up in the frozen north, so it makes perfect sense for this kind of game too. They look kind of like rocking chairs with really long "feet", and you push them ahead of you (you can also push another person on them).

Bigger sleds might be a thing for the potential future sled dogs.
