Unique Interiors

It's probably not very near in the future, but I will be so excited when the houses aren't just clones of each other. Not only in layout and contents, but in decor as well. All of the houses are exactly the same. I would be interested to see unique photos and artwork, and remnants of whatever the house's last occupants were doing. Did they pack up all their stuff and leave? The homes seem very empty. I'd like a bit more clutter and individualization, if these houses were being lived in as homes and the people just up and fled when the disaster hit. I love it when a place tells a story, and that's what I'm looking for in my exploration experience - finding cool plot-related things in addition to looting the place.

I think I haven't seen you yet, so please accept my belated Welcome to the Forums!

And yeah, I agree with it, at least in the story mode. In the sandbox right now it's not entirely necessary, but should the maps get updated for the story mode, it'd not be difficult to copy those over to the sandbox. +1 overall.

Define 'necessary'. I personally feel that all the sanbox interiors as they are right now, ctrl v artwork and textures etc, everything is a little bland and samey. Like MAN the people who lived out here were BORING!

;p thanks for the welcome

The sandbox was originally planned as a tech demo. However, it was so successful that Hinterland have agreed on keeping it in the full game. I've followed the project from around early 2014 if I recall correctly (I'm currently suffering from a cold and having a fever, so whatever I say should be taken with more than a grain of salt) so I subconsciously put story mode things above the sandbox :D

It's necessary in the way that it would greatly improve the sandbox experience, but I'd much prefer the devs to work on the story mode and the occuring map changes first. You're not wrong, please don't misunderstand me here, I just worded things a little awkwardly.

Another favorite of mine, This War of Mine, actually managed to make every place unique and add in bits of stories through leaflets, photos, diaries and suicide notes. While the premise of the game is an entirely different one from TLD, this method of storytelling works surprisingly well.

Also speaking about the art on the walls and the textures/shapes of the furniture and the layouts of the homes.. yes! That kind of storytelling is exactly what I want. That, coupled with what I see on the roadmap and I've never been more excited about the development of a game. So I suppose if the game maps in sandbox are the ones that story mode will be using, they can mesh it together.

Im pretty sure I recall Raphael mention wanting to make story a seperate experience altogether, not wanting the game to feel cheaply done(or something along those lines), meaning all new locations, NPCs and lore

Least Im pretty sure I read a post by him on the forums saying something like that... Not sure where its at tho

I agree that Raph i am sure is working hard and focusing on the Story mode. Its obviously the whole reason this game began and as stated before , the sandbox i think was originally just a test thing that evolved into a much loved part of this game and so has had a lot of work done to it too.

I do agree it will be nice to see male and female corpses with different clothing , ages, loot and even dead posture. Also the cabins and buildings to feel more unique, even if that means just a few more random wall pictures and a big overhaul of the loot in homes and making that a lot more random in its content and spawning spots.

But i do have hope and belief this will come. it will be added. ' winter IS coming!' LOL

When it comes to loot, I am actually satisfied the way it is handled right now.

However, what you said about corpses is right though. The corpses, rare as they are, should tell even more of a story than buildings.

One of the possible rifle spawns on CH is a corpse on the island that also has the Misantrophes homestead. Would be a much more powerful experience if he was actually killed by wildlife!

well all i have found is that the loot spawns in the same places. i think its 3 of the houses at Coastal Highway. they all have a flare under the sofa and a can of peaches on the table and a raw fish in the freezer. i can walk into the houses there and know exactly what i will find and where. I think it happens in the ones that have the same room layout.

So i am kinda hoping that the spawning is looked at and fixed or tweaked so that clone spawning doesnt happen very often at all. i understand its gonna happen sometimes but i hope not as regularly as i have found it to occur.

This war of Mine is extremely bleak, so its a completely different approach as LD.

And id suggest to keep in mind, the more varying textures there are in the game the more work it would take. Altho aside from development time factor it will also mean that game would have periodically load large amounts of data, that would affect performance and requirements.
