Barretts Privateer
So, with the new Whiteout challenge, I have already thought of something that might both improve it and the sandbox experience. As we know, whenever bad weather is imminent that we know of previously, humans will prepare for it. Thinking about it, animals do as well. So I was thinking, as time counts down towards the 'monster blizzard' that we, the survivor, have been prepping for, animals begin to disappear as well, going into hiding as the storm approaches. I should think that, by the time this would begin to happen, one should have close to enough if not enough food to fulfill the requirements (I don't know if all 15 days of food are enough, as I'm only 10 days into the challenge.) In addition, if this kind of behavior was implemented into the sandbox, it would provide a visual clue to an attentive player as to when a blizzard is coming and allow them to prepare. I've noticed (and experienced) that we can get a little angry when a three-day blizzard catches us off-guard while we're raiding supplies far from our base of operations and ends up ending our otherwise perfect run. I don't know if this can be done, but if so, it is something I would greatly like to see implemented into the game.
Crimson Foxx
I agree. The animals could react to the oncoming blizzard front. Plus as less animals are about it will be hard to rely on meat and push us to find canned and packaged food which in turn will become harder to find if we managed it badly early on in the challenge and used it all up. With no wildlife about and less food found it will test the players to work hard, maybe fish more and snare a lot. I haven't played the White Out challenge yet but i hope we get to carry on through that blizzard front and see how we cope for at least a few days of the storm. it be a shame if the challenge ends the moment the blizzard hits. I would wanna test that my collected needs list gets me through it hehe.
Wastelander
This is a pretty good suggestion in my book - animals should be more than a threat and a food source, so yes, I agree with you completely!
