Animal population regenerates way too quickly

Recommended Posts

Title, I have like 15 wolf skins, 8 rabbit skins, and 8 deer skins in coastal highway, I have had these and have been using them for over 2 months in game now, I used to have double that + multiple bear skins.

I find it odd that wolves show up after I obliterate their population after a week or so, it's not that their presence annoys me, it's that it makes the game too easy.  There is no scarcity with the current regeneration rates.  I leave the gas station, a wolf pops up, I drop meat, shoot him in the face, then I skin/gut, it seems like I'm constantly doing this.

I am one of the opinion that it should take about a month or more of in game time for their population to return, this will add new found weight to decision making when repairing animal skin clothing, and will make ice fishing more important as well as being able to "thin the herd" around your selected base camp.

It probably won't surprise you to know that this is not the first time a forum member has suggested this. Of course it's a good idea.

Respawn rates for all animals is way too fast, as is the rate at which you can catch rabbits and fish in the same area without depleting the stocks. Having to rotate your food-acquisition areas on a regular basis and over wider areas would add a huge amount of depth, challenge and enjoyment to all aspects of the game, I think.

I agree, as I've been doing since I started playing this game :)

I tend to think that respawn rates will drop as the game goes forward. My personal theory (or wish, ha ha) is that, once the seasons are implemented, player will be encouraged to gather food for the winter via reduced spawns during this season. I definitely think that the game would be extremely rewarding during winter if finding a deer becomes something special.
