Personally, I'm not a fan of any human-human combat in game. While many games have great aggressive player-NPC interactions I personally don't think combat should be the focus of the game. There's a large difference between adversarial NPCs and NPCs trying to kill you. While I'm sure there will be at least one psycho in the single player game (two people beating a defenseless man is in the teaser trailer) I hope that's not the entire game. The Long Dark would be a lesser experience if it were. I'd prefer focus to instead be placed on meaningful NPC interactions, dialogs and possibly a trading system.

As for gun cleaning minigames... I'm of mixed opinion. The rifles in the game were designed for trench warfare. While they breakdown quickly that level of cleaning is really only needed once a year. For the purposes of general maintenance and keeping the rifle working running the barrel brush down the rifle with some cleaning fluid followed by lubricant after every few shots would be fine. In this regard, I don't mind the current lack of interaction when cleaning. If rifle scopes are ever added I would really enjoy seeing that as a mini game as you try to mount and sight in your rifle scope. Again, different preferences for different people ^_^
