Scrap metal, a bit too general perhaps?

In the situation we are in, I find it hard to believe that we would be able to turn a bunch of small scraps of metal into a larger object like a knife or a hatchet. Generally, it's much easier to take a large object and make a smaller one out of it. Now it would be a ton of work, but here's my idea.... Instead of just general scrap, we have to find metal objects to turn into other things. For example, a railroad spike can be turned into a knife. Post #11 in this link has a good example of something I could see us making under these conditions: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/698702-Railroad-Spike-Knives

Sheet metal (from shelves, car bodies, electrical panels, etc etc) can be formed into all sorts of things, containers, arrowheads, another version of the improvised knife...

The world we live in is full of metal things that can be re purposed, it would add a lot to the game if we had all sorts of things laying around that we could turn into tools or even just decorations.
