STORY MODE : GENDER NEUTRAL

Greetings,

Based on your opening lines with regard to the story-line (which is not available for play at this point), I can see that it is based around a "Will McKenzie" (not sure of last name spelling). I never understood the reason game companies did use a gender neutral name so the story-lines can be virtually identical with the substitute of she-he.  For example, Chris/Kris McKenzie or Pat McKenzie are they male or female - Christopher/Kristopher or Christine/Kristine or Patricia or Patrick? It seems simple enough... and VERY LITTLE in story line would change other than references to character in third person - he or she - just a thought...

I'm not sure if I understand your concerns right, but "Will" is the abbreviation of "William" and he's male.

During story mode, we'll be playing both William Mackenzie (who is male and thus has a male voice actor) and Astrid Greenwood (who is female / has a female voice actor), not just one of them. Gender-neutral names probably don't make much sense in this context. :winky:

I get your point, but in games gender neutrality mostly only works in a sandbox environment - and I'd support a third character for the sandbox. However, the story-mode is being crafted by accomplished authors who know fully well that they can not please everyone - they tell the story they wish to tell, and this story focuses around one male and one female character as far as we know.

I have a question: Why should there be a gender neutral character? In truth, the only thing it affect is which voice actor you hear, as their stats are identical. if you don't like the voice acting, go into audio settings and turn it off.
If you enjoy being a disembodied ghost, then be my guest, however given the fact that Hinterland studios have made the effort to bring in Michael Meer and Jennifer Hale to provide voices for the characters, I fail to see the point in producing a third "genderless" character.
