Ubermensch
I'm really worried, my Xbox One just updated the game and I was really happy to see the improvements. And I found my One month game wasn't opening even with it appearing in the saved games, I decided to restart the game and the horrible surprise I have is that the game dissapeared and I can swear I never pressed X (erease game) I really want to recover that game, Please help! Ubermensch
Again! The game just ereased another game that I saved yesterday, that's happened twice to me since the game updated on Xbox One, It's really annoying to lost all your progress. So, I'm not playing TLD until Hinterland fix this. Please someone in the dev team pay attention on this BIG issue.

One step you can try right away is to perform a power cycle on your XBox One, instructions here: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console Let us know if this improves the situation for you. Ubermensch
I'm on it, but I've read at last another Xbox One user here in the forums with the exact same issue just before the last TLD update, so maybe it's not just happening in my console. Mahonee
Had same issue. Came to boards and Patrick had the fix. Worked for me. Thanks!
Moon Watcher
I just lost a saved game this morning. I clicked on it to load, but it made a "not clickable" sound. I power-cycled my Xbox and restarted the game, but now its disappeared. My friend sitting next to me on his own Xbox and TV had the same thing happen about two weeks ago. RIP Dave. You were so young, had your Mountaineer's Hut stacked for the long haul and had just shot a wolf in the head the night before so you could repair your wolf-skin jacket in preparation to summit that glorious mountain to the North. I only hope God lets you take your survival bow to heaven so you can do what you loved most in this virtual existence. I feel Theodore Roosevelt said it most poignantly when he spoke these words; "sometimes, when you're playing the alpha version of a great game, not everything works the way its supposed to. But its not about the destination. Its about Hinterland Studios feeling sorry for you and sending you a free hatchet... which you can then bury and move on." So onward we go into the dawning of a new game. Remembering our past mistakes and hoping for a good loot stash wherever I get spawned in. Thanks, Hinterland, for making what is already one of my favorite games in my 20 years of gaming. Seriously amazing work. There are a lot of stoked gamers out here who have been waiting for this game to exist. I think they will find the issue and Fix it. Pdta: I know the feeling bro, the same just happened to me but totally agree that this is an awesome game from a really nice user listener studio. They'll get it figured out. As for now, I started a new game and just pretended my three caches got struck by lightning and most of my supplies were destroyed. "A true mountain consents to your presence then soon reminds you of the gift you were given." -Jim McCormick The same exact thing happened to me this morning. My scenario was the exact same as yours. I saw the save file, clicked it, but couldn't. Power cycled my Xbox and the save file was gone as well. I feel like Hinterland should just stop all the updates and everything until they fix this particular issue. It really gets under your skin to lose all that progress and hard work and have to start from scratch again. This is already an exceptional game but it would be even better if this save game issue gets fixed. I will not be playing until they fix this issue. cekivi
Please note that the game is in Alpha so save files will occasionally become corrupted. While Hinterlands tries their best sometimes an update will have an unintended affect on a save file. The PC crowd were quite used to this in the early days when files would routinely get wiped each major update.
Guest Support
So first, to be very straight forward: stopping updates or other work to focus solely on this issue would not resolve it faster, unfortunately. I apologize that this has happened to you, we take Users losing saves very seriously and do everything we can to minimize this from happening. We've introduced a number of Xbox specific improvements to our save system in recent updates and continue to improve the save system, in general. Unfortunately we haven't resolved everything yet, but that is why we are in Alpha. In the case described (seeing the save but not being able to load it) the save has become corrupt. There are a lot of reasons this can happen, but most of them come from being in active development. In the case where the saves are missing after an update - That's a different issue that we're researching. The update process exists outside of our game and is something we've seen other games identify, as well. Console development poses some unique challenges. While I know this doesn't fix the issue I hope it gives you some insight into the why and what we're doing to try and minimize save issues. I certainly invite you to come back and play when you feel comfortable with our progress on saves. Last thing we want is for your experience to be lack luster because of Game Preview growing pains. Moon Watcher
The risk of losing a saved game file can't keep me from continuing to play. It's just too fun. I have gladly set aside Fallout 4 and GTA 5 for The Long Dark. Hinterland, you guys rock and are doing great work. Keep it up. We're rooting for y'all.
