Can the Old Bear be killed?

I just wonder if I'd get through the trouble of making bow & arrows, would the game allow it for killing the Old Bear in the Hunted challenge before you reach Trapper's? On a similar thought, has anyone ever found a rifle inside the Hunted challenge?

The Hunted Challenge, as a twist on Sandbox Mode, has its own set of rules (and indeed its own Bear!). As we see in The Hunted introduction screen--"Nothing can kill him but the Trapper's old Bearkiller rifle." As for the rifle itself, let's see what happens when we release The Hunted: Part Two.

i honestly believe its gonna be something like "the bearkiller rifle isn't here! you just remembered seeing it in the mountaineers hut in timber wolf mountain!"

i think that would make me throw my remote across the room xD

If it's possible to make bows and arrows, it might be possible to shoot him a few times, even if it can't kill him. I'm not sure how the 'spawning' of the bear works - when I've played it he just seems to appear after you've been outside for half an hour or so, but perhaps he has a real 'location' at all times and actually moves around the map? Anyhow, if the game 'saved' any arrows that you'd managed to land on him, that might make for an interesting sub-challenge?

He's a ninja bear who teleports all around the map, I managed once to get from the player spawn point to the Farmstead without seeing him but usually he's everywhere and will run across half the map to get you. Cliff's and the likes help because he will then have to run around it which gives you some more seconds to reach a safe place. But for and old guy he sure has a fantastic stamina^^
