palbi
Dear Hinterland, as mentioned in the title, I have basic problems with the Sandbox. 1. Meat (deer, rabbit, etc): It's a good point, that inside the houses, in warm, meat decreases. But out in the cold? I've yet never seen less than -5 throughout the game, outside. I learned from my everyday routine, that frozen meals can last very-very long, raw or cooked. Not decreasing 1% every 2 or 3 days (I didn't measure exactly). 2. Storage of meat: So I lay them down outside the house, not far, and they last fairly long. And noone touches them ever. Wolves don't, especially. So, we (you) have to make a decision: A -> The player lays down the meat outside the house, and risks that wolves "make the cleanup" by morning. B -> Each house (or the bigger ones at least) have separate room/small building for cold-storing food OR the player can craft something shelter for them - like I would do in such circumstances. (I'm not sure, but I understand, after several weeks of playing, that this whole area was mainly for summertime vacations. And I saw the fridges in the houses.) 3. I would like to see brighter houses: At daylight inside every house I have to use lightsource to explore. This is nonsense! Noone builds houses (with windows) so, that at daylight he/she couldn't see each corner clean. ++ To v332: I see less animals, no matter what kind. Maybe it's intentional. But I had two worrysome encounters with deers. First, crossing each other's path (I was on my walk for sticks) instead of fleeing, he simply disappeared from the screen! Second, on a deer hunt. I got a shot on one, he tried to flee - but he ran in one place, as if a invisible wall was in front of him. I could comfortably walk to him and made the final shot from one step distance. You should look into it. Thanks and God bless you in making this marvellous game!

Hotzn
I concur that food - especially meat - storage needs further work. If just placed outside on the floor, animals should get it overnight. I have suggested this a long time ago, before we had the accelerated decay process indoors. Wolves and bears (and other predators/scavengers) would smell foodstuff just left lying around for miles, even in cold weather. And they would come for it over long distances. Actually, if we left meat just outside of our shelter (let's say on the porch of Camp Office), not only should animals come and get it over night, but there should also be a chance that wolves are lurking around the porch in the morning, hoping for more. Of course, if we have both accelerated rotting indoors and animals getting food outdoors, there should be ways to remedy this, for example some containers outside or the possibility to craft them. Or move the smaller ones from inside outside! I would for one love to drag that fridge out of the Farmstead kitchen onto that back porch. It's a perfect place for it - cold and sheltered from animals. And the fridge is nice and heavy (just don't fill the freezer compartment first - it would make it top heavy and easy for a bear to topple it). Refrigerators seal almost perfectly, so no smell (or very little) could be recognized by animals. But not from miles, I'm pretty sure. Second, if you think of using the fridge with electricity (in case the creators of the game make this possible) bear in mind, that manufacturers of fridges recommend to use their product between +5 and +40. Extreme cold (and extreme hot) could cause the macines breaking down. Really.
hauteecolerider
Oh, I was speaking of fridges from the perspective of "We are NEVER going to have electricity again." So we might as well get some practical use out of those hulking steel boxes in all these houses. I can totally see the houses falling down after two years of neglect and those fridges still standing proud in the wreckages.
Boston123
Or, you know..... take a nice big chunk of snow and ice, stuff it in the fridge/freezer compartment, and stack your food around it. Fridge/freeezers are insulated, so as long as you don't open the door too often, the compartment will stay cold for a long time. I wish we had that mechanic, actually. I'm on day 67 or so and I've never killed a bear. It would be nice to be able to leave out some meat and lure wolves and/or bear to my place so I could hunt them easier. We can drop a decoy if a wolf is chasing us, but if we leave our meat outside all day and night for weeks, no wolves show up?
