Snowshoes and Skis

Yes please.

How will or should they work? This is what I think...

First walking should cost more energy and exhaustion. Mobility is too easy in this game. Try walking 100 feet in 6 feet of snow IRL and you will be dogged.

Snowshoes decrease calories and rest cost. Skis increase speed. Maybe a sled increases payload.

These would all be easy mechanics to integrate. Maybe some first person animations so you can see what you are wearing. They would also be a good item to integrate with this "knowledge" system and advanced crafting.

I think these mechanics would also add a more depth and difficulty to gameplay. Mobility is huge enabler when scavenging and it just isn't a big factor in gameplay at this time, except running (which I think is balanced) and some weather conditions.

Maybe after storms mobility could be more difficult with the fresh snow pack then become easier over time.

I'm fairly sure I saw something about snow shoes somewhere in the 0-6 month road map (http://hinterlandgames.com/the-long-dark/roadmap/)

I would really like to see these as well and agree with you about walking in 6ft of snow.  I've been hiking in mid winter in the rocky mountains and if you don't have snow shoes it is almost impossible to make forward progress in the deep stuff.
