Make more realistic crafting system

Why the hell do i need to use a crafting station to make a snare and clothing?

And the recipe, so little options.

You dont even have to experience it to know what we can craft without some sort of a crafting station.

This raises an interesting question in my mind: how am I able to craft things in a pitch black cabin with no light? If players gain the ability to craft basic items out in the wilderness, I think it follows that light and at least basic shelter should be addressed.

I think the crafting element "is" being addressed by the developers and is in it's beginning stages. Since the last update, you can now craft several items without the crafting table that you could not before.

I believe as the game progresses, there will be more subtle changes (and more items) to craft!

Patience grasshopper!!!  :P

Yeah although I abuse this mechanic currently, I don't understand how we can do half the things we do in pitch darkness. I've been sewing for almost a decade now and still can't do so in the dark. That being said, I'd like the game to eventually feature a mechanic where our eyes adjust to the darkness after a certain period of time- not so everything is clear as day, but at least so we can make out shapes and such.

Were it otherwise, you'd run out of gasoline real quick and then traversing the caves/mines would not be so much fun anymore. Also, you'd have to hope for a clear night to repair anything... and doing it outside.

Having a lightsource while crafting and repairing makes sense and could add a fun challenge, but it would require the player had a means of securing sources of light long term first, such as candle making.

I've offered some ideas on candle making here.

Candlemaking is a great idea!

I think part of it is that fuel burns very very unrealistically quickly.

True, but that is a conscious design decision (just as the unrealistic high calorie intake needed is): it forces the player to go out and find useful items. If you could get by for months on a single jerrycan, finding another wouldn't be so pressing, not would obtaining yet another make for a very interesting find. Right now, it's like finding a bar of gold.

Things would be ameliorated somewhat if a mechanic was added so that players could siphon off gasoline from cars (I assume this was planned for originally, since one can open the gas containers).

This started by my raising the question: "how am I able to stitch together an animal-skin jacket in pitch black darkness?" Or any task requiring precise manual dexterity?

If fuel lasts longer, yes it will not be as valuable as a resource in terms of managing consumption, but that can be counterbalanced by making it a requirement to work indoors at night. There is also always the carry weight and distribution in the environment which can impact its value or difficulty in harvesting.

The only thing with gasoline is that it is not compatible with kerosene lanterns, in fact if you put gas in a kerosene lanterns it could cause the lanterns to explode.

But we do have two wings on TWM which should have a fair bit of JP4 in them, which is of course a form of kerosene.
