piddy3825
TOP DEFINITION Completionist Someone who, when playing a video game, has to collect all of a certain item, or complete something in the game 100%. It was a slow day at the office today and the topic of conversation for the day was about playing video games and how much time we spend on game play single player vs. multiplayer mode and there was a striking dichotomy between play style preferences based on player age. In a nutshell, the under 35 age group preferred multiplayer mode games and those of us over 35 preferred single player campaign mode games. Then one of the millennials called me a "Completionist," and I wasn't sure if I should be offended or not. lol, anyways, I googled it... Yeah, that describes me pretty good. My Steam account shows TLD with 517 hours played. That's a significant amount of time in the sandbox, and I only have one achievement left to complete... gonna do it on this run... then what??? hauteecolerider
then you make up your own achievement to complete! Die hard single player here. Never could understand the appeal of multiplayer games . . .

I am in the over 35 group and I definitely like multiplayer games IF they promote player cooperation. Unfortunately, games rarely do. A friend had me try Call of Duty. I grudgingly accepted since he was part of a team that played together a lot. Needless to say, I ran from that one screaming... As for completing everything in a game, I don't think I ever have. I lose interest too quickly and there are so many games to try. TLD is one of the rare games that keeps me coming back for more. The only achievement I doubt I will ever try to complete in TLD is the "Exploration Game."

And they are kicking my a**. someday, I'm gonna kill that bear... @polarnomad Your last comment almost made me rip my stitches from laughing, Exploration Game is the only achievement that I havent unlocked and with 500+ hours in the sandbox you figure I would have completed it by now. But it still eludes me, so I will keep playing.
Stytch Fingal
I'm over 45, piddy3825, and the completionist description fits me, too. And I also avoid multiplayer games.

Well, I can't really confirm that from my personal experience (which is non-representative ofc.) While I tend to agree that there are rather few older people to be found in certain multiplayer game genres, I definitely know numerous people in the "below 35" age group who either enjoy only single player games or both single player and multiplayer games. I guess it's much more about your personality than about your age what you like better. For me personally, the relevant criterium whether I like a game or not doesn't depend at all on the question whether it's a single-player, a Co-Op or a multiplayer-game. As long as the game's overall design fits the amount of players (for TLD, it's e.g. definitely singleplayer in my opinion), I'm able to enjoy each of these modes. Vhalkyrie
I'm a completionist, and proud of it! I liked multiplayer games back in the olden days. I'm old enough to have been playing them since the dawn of MMOs, even going so far as when they were text games! I dislike the modern MMO because griefing is now the norm. A friend of mine and I play Divinity: Original Sin multiplayer on a Friday night, but I stopped playing MMOs long ago back when they became mainstream. Recoil911
i tend to prefer single player games. Not that i dislike multiplayer, but most games have exploits when it comes to multiplayer. Last game i've played that is a bit of the two is Elite Dangerous. Sadly even there most players tend to just blow you up. Left 4 dead was amazing when played with a good team. The concept was nice, even if i liked Story mode more than Versus (Nearly impossible to play with random people in a team)
Wasteland Watcher
Agree with Recoil -- it's the exploits that deters me from a lot of multiplayer games. But I do enjoy some Mechwarrior Online every now & then However since I'm often multitasking watching small children while gaming in the room while watching them, single player games are just better for me because I can immediately hit the [ESC] key to take care of adhoc tasks such as the random diaper explosion or toy fight. The MWO I'm referring to and occasionally play is the multiplayer free to play one that came out in 2012. If you like the old Mechwarrior games you'd probably like it. I've never played the Xbox one that you're talking about because I've never owned any console since Sega Genesis. I either build a new gaming PC or buy a new one every five years. Graphics etc are better on PC. Anyhow, the first Mechwarrior I played was Mechwarrior 2 and even today it's a very cool, fun game. And I got it to run on Windows 7 believe it or not! I used to really love Mechwarrior 3 as well but I can't get it to run on Windows 7. Also played the original Mech Commander. If you like real-time strategy then you'd like it I think. And I forgot to write in the last post but I'm also kind of a completionist type of gamer as well. I gather all food, clothes, and tools and bring them to wherever I've made HQ. I don't breakdown cardboard, wood, or anything like that unless I really need the broken down resource because I only use tools for that if I absolutely have to. Like probably half the people in this forum I move from region to region exploring and taking pretty much anything that isn't nailed down: all your scrap metal are belong to me! As of right now I plan to eventually move back to Mystery Lake and stay at the cabin near the unnamed pond and also the Forestry Outlook.
