James K
Ok, so this game is easily the most realistic and brutal survival game I've ever played...I LOVE IT! Survival is a big deal to me and I appreciate the idea of surviving using only your own skills and independent power, but is it really THAT realistic? Well sure, for a game it's a huge leap in realism, but not that realistic yet. Here are some of my suggestions that would make it even more realistic, but still be a fun game: 1. Slower hunger and thirst - I think that especially hunger should decrease speed because a human can go weeks without food sometimes. And the calorie system is cool, but even in freezing temperatures, you don't need to eat that much daily. Obviously you would need to eat every few days and a good amount, but not a good amount every day. 2. "Primitive" shelters and weapons - I think the ability to place a Lean To or something on smaller hanging trees would be great, and would make the idea of "Independent Survival" even larger. Also, the game should aim on adding rocks maybe so that you can make spear/arrow tips, or just the ability to carve a long sharp edge and tip to branches. These could also be projectiles, but wouldn't be very lethal I'd assume if they aren't steal; but could definitely destroy a rabbit and slow down a dear! Axes are sort of a leap of faith, since axes aren't very primitive. OLD axes were a lot of times used with actual dear antlers (cut) attached to wood or bone for a handle with flint shards on the other end, which would take hours to make so... 3. Fires inside (places with no stove, etc...) - By this I don't mean fires inside a small wooden house, but like the basement on Pleasant Hill or whatever the map is called, or in that dam control area. The floors to these are concrete so no real damage would be done, and a fire indoors would easily heat the place up in minutes and could probably last the night with embers in the morning. 4. Fur coats - Along with the clothes already, there should be fur equipment. Assuming our protagonist(s) can sew a bit and skin a deer, then a hide cloak would preserve tons of heat and block tons of wind chill. Imagine your current snow outfit (IRL), now imagine that while cloaked in animal hide...maybe a bit TOO warm. 5. More berries, edible while raw - That one berry for making the tea is fine and all, but sort of boring. I think by adding more wild berries (and some poisonous ones, too), the game would be less "OH NO I NEED MORE DOG FOOD" and more "SWEET! Some berries! Let's hope they aren't poisonous..." - a bit of a more realistic approach. So in conclusion: Beyond amazing game, even as of now, but it could actually be even better in my eyes if they made it more realistic, which would actually make it harder and easier in certain aspects. Guest
Building a fire indoors without proper ventilation is deadly. The carbon monoxide from the smoke will poison your body extremely quick. Also, a fire in a basement would consume all the oxygen in the room rapidly. Not to mention a fire in an enclosed space can cause smoke inhalation which, in extreme cases, can also be deadly. Just thought I would throw that out there. I love the idea of using animal pelts to keep yourself warm though.
Vhalkyrie
Agreed with Revenant. An open fire indoors is really dangerous. You can create a fire inside a cave, but it must be placed at the mouth. Otherwise you'll die silently as the carbon monoxide will kill you in your sleep. Berries are more of a spring time edible, at least in the Pacific Northwest. I'm not aware of any edible berries in the winter. If there are, the bears will surely have eaten them already. I agree we should be able to make more fur craftable items. A rabbit fur hat is a natural. And perhaps a fur blanket that we can use at night to offset some of the poor warmth beds in the world. I know if I was in a survival situation in the wilderness with an excess of animal furs, first thing I would make is a warm blanket.
DrOs666
2. You can craft a primitive knife an hatchet in DP forge 4. You can already craft deer pants , deer boots , rabbit mittens and wolf coat. You can craft a bear bedroll too
vancopower
I agree with all the people above, however hunger and thirst should be re-balanced but not much. Also we already have meat spoilage in the game we need water bottles freezing to counter the effect of long term water stockpiling and then they can decrease the speed of hunger and thirst. Dirmagnos
1. While human can, in some cases, go for weeks without food it greatly depends on persons initial condition and training. Plus strenuous activities will drain energy real fast and with various hibernation exploits ppl already live off literally scraps for prolonged amounts of time in the game. Unless TLD will get long-term effects and conditions that address it there is really no point in changing it. Ive been tinkering with idea of additional bar that would either slowly increase, if player is well fed, or depletes if hes starving(something like extremely primitive take on body fat), that would have various effects, like faster speed with low load when getting thinnner or better warmth conservation when building up some fat. 2. Stone and bone has been talked over again and again. Nothing so far, even tho its one extremely popular topic. 3. Yeah, as already mentioned, without good ventilation, indoors fire can be deadliest enemy of survivor. 4. Making anything and everything from various furs also has been extensively discussed and i do believe that it will be added at some point. Current system feels more like a test template. It doesnt really make much sense not to be able to craft wolfskin mittens, or rabbitskin hat. 5. Finding berries under the snow(since anything above it would be picked clean by now by various animals) seems to be rather doubtful. Altho skilled outdoorsman may be able to interpret various signs that would point him to exact spots.

I'm on board with something like this. Make weight management a trade off with benefits and detriments in both directions. There should be extreme consequences for living off on large calorie dedicits IMO. I have high hopes for the well being systems they are introducing.
