Troxism
This is new to the latest update (Tireless Menace), never occurred before. Basically the issue is when doing long crafts (specifically clothing), when you craft in portions it consumes extra materials. Example: Had 3 Hides and 5 Gut in inventory, started crafting Deerskin Pants, which take 3 hides and 4 gut. I crafted for 5 hours (with a sewing kit), then stopped to drink, then crafted for another 5 hours, leaving me with 2.5 hours left, however I had no more hides or gut left, and was unable to actually finish the craft, as it still required 1 more hide and 1 more gut, but I had 0 of both left (meaning it consumed an extra hide and 2 extra gut above the actual cost of the craft). Obviously I had more then the required materials, so I should have been able to finish the craft without running out of materials. Likely what is occurring is some kind of 'rounding error', as the way crafting works is if it needs 4 gut, it takes 1 gut for each 1/4 of the craft completed and puts it into the partially completed item. However what seems to be happening is I craft for 5 hours, which is over 40% of the total craft, meaning it was on to the 2nd pelt and gut, then when I resumed, it 'retook' them again from my inventory because it forgot that I had already invested them. Same thing when I started crafting the second time. Before this update, even crafting 1 hour at a time never 'munched' materials like this, so something was broken. TLDR: Either there is some rounding error or the partially completed item is 'forgetting' that you have already invested the 'next piece' of hide or gut and is consuming it a second time above and beyond the intended crafting cost. Since if you are playing outdoors only, you pretty much can only craft 1-2 hours at a time safely, this issue makes those types of challenges very difficult for me as I suspect you will get a lot of 'munching' when crafting in tiny chunks and will be forced to use far more then the normal amount of materials to actually finish the craft. Note that I did not drop anything, and yes, I had the partially crafted item in my inventory the whole time and no, my sewing kit did not break or anything. Dinhammer
I also noticed this when crafting deerskin boots. I wonder if it has something to do with the new degradation mechanic for hides. Perhaps the crafting algorithm assumes all materials are at 100 percent? Or perhaps during long crafts, the hides degrade between crafting sessions. Or both. (It's still a bit of a mystery to me why cured hides now degrade in the first place.) Edit: So as not to mislead those who may come across this thread later, I have since tested cured hides in v.327 and confirmed that they do *not* degrade perceptibly, at least in containers, once cured. Sorry 'bout that.
Guest Support
Thanks for reporting this - As you say , this is likely a rounding error . I've passed the issue onto the team.

It's not hides degrading to nothing: my hides were at 81%, 80% and 80% each, and cured hides either don't degrade at all or degrade extremely slowly compared to fresh ones in my observations so far (and even fresh ones degrade slowly if you store them rather then tossing them on the ground indoors). Although to be fair I have not done any 'long term science' on degradation in the new patch yet. It's possible that it has something to do with the condition of the hides or gut (ie 80% hide only giving 80% credit), but I tested a 'all in one 12.5 hour session' craft, and it consumed exactly the correct amount of everything even though the materials there were also partially degraded. But maybe it only checks for that every time you restart the craft, and doing it all in one go bypassed this check. 4 hours ago, Support said: Thanks for reporting this - As you say , this is likely a rounding error .
