Brandishing items and fighting off wolves

New player and rather confused about how this is supposed to work.

started just before the last patch ... before that I just right-clicked with a lit flare and it threw it and wolf ran off.  Now is there a bar that fills up when you hold down the RMB (I may be getting this confused between brandishing and fighting).

...anyway I right clicked, the wolf ignored the brandished flare and attacked and it said something to the effect of "try to fight the wolf off".  Not at all obvious HOW ... Can anyone explain ?

on a related question why doesn't a pry bar count as a weapon ? It seems to me that it would be very effective.

Welcome to the forums!

To answer your questions:

Since update v.321 you'll be brandishing flares/torches to scare off wolves. By the "bar that fills up" you probably mean the action you perform when in a wolf struggle. Fill up the bar to fight off the animal. You'll use your LMB for this.

In terms of the prybar, you will use it as a weapon it game feels it gives you your best chance of success. When you have more than one weapon in your inventory, the game selects the best one automatically when you enter the struggle.

I hope that answers your questions! :winky:
