Whittling wolves, bears, deer, people while resting

We have wood, knives, and limitless free time in TLD. Why not spend our resting time whittling? It would cost resources (wood and knife/axe durability) and would result in a player created item we could add to the world. From this starting point, I have a ton of other ideas:

  • level up whittling as you whittle. Multiple versions of each model, each with more detail. Our first wolf looks like crap, but as we progress in whittling they get better.
  • maybe you can only whittle animals you have killed? Something new to unlock.
  • I was thinking about bobble heads in fallout, maybe whittling a bear makes your attacks against bears do more damage. Whittling a rabbit or fish makes you more adept at fishing or your traps more likely to catch rabbits.
  • whittling uses the mind, and maybe could stave off cabin fever or boosts mood once that's implemented.
  • there's also the "Wilson" idea, where you talk to your whittled friends. If you travel with them you get a boost to your mood (when that's implemented). If you leave one behind, or travel without one, your mood falls. They have weight to them, so they have to be worth it to carry with you.

I posted this on reddit also, so hopefully people will add to or critique my idea. Thanks for reading!

I do like the idea of a hobby, and I think the idea of using it to offset some mood and/or cabin fever negatives would be cool.... but I'm not certain I really want to start walking down the road of talking with my new friends.they might be demented..:P

I like the effect on the mental state, if there was a much more complex system in the future this could be a way to keep your mental health in check. Also you can trade the tings you make to other NPC's or give them like presents to gain their trust in any case good idea. +1
