Flares shot before death in Challenge mode appear in new challenge

First off I should say I tried to repeat this but couldn't. I don't know if it had anything to do with it, but I think the weather was the same when the bug occurred, and the weather was different when it didn't occur, but that's my only lead. 

This happened during the bear challenge. I died at the starting area, where the initial bear attack occurs. Right before dying, I shot off a bunch of flares with the flare gun. I died, then started the challenge over. The lit flares where right where I shot them in the past game, and after they burned out the spent flare shells were on the ground.

Like I said, I tried to repeat but the bug didn't happen. Maybe I just got really lucky
