I MUST express my love for the new footprints.

Late last night, I logged in to discover the update had been released.  I immediately started up a new sandbox on a random map, and while trying to figure out where I had ended up, I turned around and exclaimed "Holy Crap!!"

Footprints look fabulous!  So much so, that I find myself walking backwards quite a lot. :excited: The snow seems so much more real because of them, and stalking prey just became a heck of a lot more fun.

Nice one, Hinterland.

They do look incredibly immersive. I noticed that when you walk backwards they point the way you think they would.

I find walking backwards over existing footprints helps evade cunning wolves who are stalking me through my tracks. In my head. As I go slowly mad. Through playing this too much.

Snow-angels next update please, as a mechanic for reducing cabin-fever. "Mutter-mutter-whee-wahey-phew!"

I don't really like them. Them being realistic goes against the art style, at least in my opinion. I really prefer the old ones.

The old footprints made me feel like I was walking on a solid surface.  Now, the snow, which dominates the entire game, feels like a soft surface that I'm walking in, not on.  That is the main reason I like them, not because they look realistic.

As far as going against the art style, I think they complement it.  The footprints interact with the environment's beautiful lighting effects, casting shadows, reflecting the sunlight etc.

Also, the footprints fade away now, and don't simply disappear, which I always found rather jarring.
