[v.325] Reseting Interiors

The last patch fixed two biggest problems with the recent build (321) of the game (ghost footprints and broken containers) but one still remains in my games (both new and old saves):

Every interior I enter, upon leaving and returning, gets re-set, including containers and free-lying items. When I re-enter the building, it even displays the "You have discovered X location" message again. That means both unlimited resources but also not being able to make a base, rendering the game unplayable.

i just finished the bear challenge, i can not confirm it for interior or containers because i misunderstood the challenge i tried to make it fast  but at the beginning i noticed that everything outside (in the world) was resetting itself.

After the bear attack, i looted a few reclaimed wood and rosehips, than went inside the basement to heal and when i went out again, the rosehips and the reclaimed wood have respawned.

I thought it is a feature of the challenge but than saw this thread :)

so yeah, everything seems to reset, inside and outside

EDIT: One more thing, the bar that shows the stamina was reset too. I had zero stamina when i started fighting fluffy and after the attack the bar was full again

Just adding my name to the list - started a new save to try out the update and dropped some stuff inside the farmhouse before going out - stuff is gone and interior shelves and containers I had looted from have things on them again.

Outside affected for me as well, harvested old mans beard, back on that tree now

Thanks!

Registered to say the same thing has happened to me. Items I left outside of containers in the Mountaineer's Shack after the patch happened have disappeared (to include my brand new bearskin bedroll -- ugh!) and the zones reset every time I leave and come back to them. Most of what I lost isn't that big of a deal (firewood, water, etc), but the loss of the bedroll, the cups of coffee and tea, and a hatchet really sting. :-(

Hope this gets fixed soon. Thanks for an otherwise great game.

today there was an update, but no fix for this problem? I still cant play the normal sandbox because everytime i go inside or outside the whole world is resetting.

This happens when i load old saves and start new sandbox too. I only can play the challenges right now where it doesnt metter if everything is resetting.

example: Lets say i go to trapper's cabin and there are bullets inside, i take them, go outside (everything outside and inside has been reset) go back inside and loot bullets again (with the randomspawn, there is a high chance that bullets will spawn inside the cabin). If there are no bullets i go outside and turn back inside again and again. I testet it and now have over 300 Riflerounds in my inventory :p)

everything that is not in your backpack will be reset if you leave or enter a building (save)

Let me add myself to the queue. Since the update the game has become unplayable for me.

The randomization of interiors AND exteriors are no longer saved. That means when I leave the door everytime I go back in, the interior is randomized again, new items will be there another time. But even more, once I go outside the odd crowbar or axe I picked up will also be there on the floor and houses that will suddenly be burned down. I believe even branches and wood dissappeared but haven't checked it. That means with the sole exception of the inventory, the game runs without persistence.

I am quite surprised this hasn't even been adressed as I am sure this affects quite a few players.

We are looking into this issue - It does not effect everyone, so we are analyzing saves that are impacted by this issue. If you can zip up your saves into one zip and attach it to your post, that will help us look into this issue.

The are in the same root, except in /local instead of /locallow - Could we also get you to try reproducing the bug while monitoring the Autosave folder you will find in the save folder? Let us know if you see it populate with data when you transition zones.

I'll throw in another anecdote to the pile.  My first new game after the update had the reset bug.  I was at the farm house in PV.  I went in and out several times, looking at the save folder periodically to see if I could pinpoint the issue.  It looked like the scene files were not being generated for that save.  I messed around with copying and pasting scenes to and from another save, and somehow it started working as intended and the cells no longer reset.  I deleted that save and started another, this time at the gas station in CH and the cells did not reset at all, and the scenes folder is populating as expected.  It has not happened for me since.

Thanks for the extra info - We're still investigating on our end. We've not been able to reproduce the issue yet. Just to check are you running anything in the background that may have locked the files, like defragging or running an a scan for viruses? Just trying to see if we can narrow down the conditions.

Wasn't there the exact same bug in the last update? My impression is that the scenes are written fine, but subsequently overwritten because a check fails. Like different methods to establish a path or something like that.

I have deinstalled virus scanner completely to solve the issue but still the same.

i tried to copy saves from a save folder to the autosave while ingame. the result was that everything inside (i went to mine nr.5 in DP) was already looted like in my old savegame. But the bug still was not fixed. It is the same as when i load an old savegame. everything that was saved stays like this and doesnt change except for my inventory.

In my save i made my base in farmstead. Everything i gathered is still there and doesnt disappear or something. But if i change something (take stuff out of mydrawer for example) this will be reset as it was after loading.

I had 32 rifle rounds in a drawer (and other stuff). After i take out the rounds i can go outside and when i turn back inside and open the drawer, the 32 rifle rounds are there again (everything has been reset). I repeated this and now have over 350 rounds in my inventory. Everything i didnt touch in that savegame (for example a few containers with matches) will also reset. This means the things inside will be randomized just like everything  that is laying around what i didnt touch in the first place.

The game can obviosly load from a save. It seems that there is a problem when a new save is written and .. well, saved :P

Two Questions:

Does this still happen if you disable Steam Cloud Save for TLD?

Could I get someone to take a screen shot of the following folder:  c:\users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Hinterland\TheLongDark

Just post it to the thread, thanks.

That looks like it's the save directory. You should have a second directory, in English it's called LocalLow, I'm not sure what it would be called on your machine - It will also have a Hinterland/TheLongDark folder in it, but inside should be a bunch of loose files.

there is no other directory on my pc with a "Hinterland" folder

I took a look into the registry and saw 2 folders there and remembered that in my save directory 2 folders too were

"The Long Dark" and "TheLongDark". I deleted "The Long Dark" when i tried to fix the bug by copying the savefiles.

I will now try to delete tld completely by removing the entries in the registry too and reinstalling without cloud sync.
