Menu not working in new challenge

just got savagely ravaged by the bear... opened up my inventory menu to heal but no first aid icon, got the cure right here but not able to apply it...  subsequently bleed to death...

You are not able to heal from the backpack menu. Close-out and press the space-bar to bring up the new circle menu then select the first-aid icon. At one time you could heal from the backpack, but now a days you have to go to the first aid menu then pick what wound you want to heal.
