A mental feature

I dunno, I kinda like the idea, but i kinda don't.

I think it depends on the reason for shooting the person. It's a question of morals, If I shot an innocent person who was just trying to survive because he had something I wanted, my conscience would slowly make me go insane. Now if i shot a guy who was beating a helpless man to death (like in the story mode teaser) chances are I'd feel pretty good with myself.

Now what if I find a guy in my cabin stealing my supplies? That's a grey area, maybe he has a family he's trying to feed, or maybe he's just a leech. Shoot the leech, not going to feel that bad, shoot the guy with starving kids, your going to feel like a monster.

I like the idea of our actions having consequences, too many games are just bloodbaths where your a cold killer. In this situation, when there are other people around trying to survive and your just a cold killer looking out for himself, they'll figure you out and come looking for you, and when then find you, they're not going to have any mercy.

And here we go again, with all that primitive morality angle and presumptions that player is either clairvoyant or every1 would be telling the truth about their situation. Completely disregarding a huge elephant in the room - what effect on person mind whole event will have, approaching whole right/wrong idea from a perspective of some1 whos well fed, warm and have a comfortable chair under his ass.

There is no right, there is no wrong, there is survival and determination, multiplied by luck. Everything is in grey area and moralists always die first.

Ok so I think this would be a good idea a mental feature if you kill a person (which will take place in story mode) you would start going crazy slowly but surely if you go to crazy you die of starvation or suicide

Would you see this as a physical response in the character status that players would then have to manage, or did you have something else in mind? What steps would bring you from one moment to the next, in your mind?

You would go crazy by killing a person Innocent or not if you kill a human being I would go into depression and end up going crazy so if you would go crazy like that you would focus on that one thing not getting food not getting water and you would die of starvation and dyhideration or you would comite suicide but that could always be a choice

Smiley, if I understand you correctly, this can already be accomplished at this stage of the game just by refusing to eat or drink. It is entirely the player's choice how to react to something like this, and I expect we will have events such as you describe in Story Mode. If I'm that upset or depressed, I would, as the player, stop playing the game with the goal of surviving one more day in mind and just give up, let the condition clock run down and Good Night, Sweet Prince.

I came to TLD from role-playing games, and am already in the habit of telling my own story as I play the game. So I make my own decisions and live by the consequences of those decisions, including any and all moral quandaries I may come across. TLD to my mind in its current Sandbox mode is not about Right vs. Wrong, but rather about Making It Through Another Day - Or Not. You live or you die. Every decision you make brings you closer to one extreme (Life) or the other (Death).

I wouldn't want to see the game force me into some kind of psychological crisis because I chose to do one thing over another. It's bad enough killing animals that attack me when I'm at a point where I have plenty of food, plenty of hides and enough gut to sew up ten more sets of fur clothing. I really don't want to have to kill that wolf because he's hungry, but I will do so if it is the only way I can live. At least something else (hello, crows) can live off that dead wolf for a few days. And I don't need the game telling me how to feel. That's all.

Nightmares.

You wake up unable to sleep. It's snowstorm outside. Will you just stay inside? Start crafting or maintenancing your gear? Stare at the fire? Drink some comforting tea? Did you carry a book to read - to pass time? Or, are you just so bored - and hence, anxious - that you challenge the storm outside? "F*** it, if I can't sleep, I'll go there - what does it matter?"
