Suggestion about adding "slider" adjustments to Sandbox

I would like to see temperature sliders, storm frequency sliders, item frequency sliders, deer, wolf frequency etc. So I could adjust the difficulty to what suits me.  Once I figured out the way to fight wolves it is impossible to starve and I rarely get touched by them.  I have over 300 hours in this game just since January.  My hundred other games are now "collecting dust" as I play this one almost exclusively.  You have a fine product here, Hinterland!  I would just like some more user control over the sandbox.  As it is now, I start a game and play it until I can stroll around without freezing to death and then delete it and start another.  I pretty much only play Timberwolf Mountain and Pleasant Valley as well because of the colder weather.  Thank You!

This is a no slider game, just play voyager if you wish to find more items. Unlike other games TDL has actually a purpose stay alive for as long as you can, under these conditions. Why do you want to ruin that by decreasing deer or wolves for example. If you want to explore just go pilgrim mode. If you want survival hit voyager, if you want hardcore survival and want to join the league of  extraordinary gentlemen who have hit 1000 days in survival, hit stalker mode and die 1000 death's :) .

Allowing varying conditions would add depth to the game. Reducing or increasing certain parameters doesnt ruin anything, it just allows players to create more varied gameplayd.

Ive been playing only stalker lately and find abundance of wolves extremely annoying. Game is not actually harder, its just more annoying. Id prefer less wolves, but them to be actually hard to face, not this current crap where wolves have strength of pups, on any "difficulty". Id like more hard weather. I remember in early builds we had storms that lasted for days and were far more severe. Stuff like that.

And 1000+ days is no league of extraordinary gentlemen, more like league of showoffs, since there is hardly anything left to do past day 150-200, if not earlier, so just hibernating for 3 years is hardly an achievement worth mentioning. Considering that by the time player farm all areas clean, hed have enough supplies to last for those 3 years without much trouble and game actually becomes considerably easier. It would be a challenge if conditions would be becoming progressively worse, like weather/temperatures or wildlife abundance/strength. Right now its just waiting game, who can sleep the longest, there probably more action in the game in first 3 months, than following 3 years.

Exactly.  Tougher wolves would be great.  Perhaps fewer and tougher.  I friend of mine challenged me to see who could be the first to get to a year when we first got the game.  I played to around game day 270 and just stopped.  I have tons of everything and I am not interested in "getting to a year" just to get a year.  I have played the challenges and I enjoy them.  Don't get me wrong, I love this game.  Whenever I have free time, I start a new game, play it for a few hours a day until I reach a point where it starts to get too easy then quit and start another. I would just like to be able to tweak some things to make it tougher for myself.

This game is too easy for me on Stalker mode (which is all I play.)  I want less "stuff", lower temperatures, etc.  I would love to be able to adjust it to suit my abilities to make the game harder.  1000 days of survival would be no problem if I didn't get so damned bored of the game after around 30 days.  I still have a 270 day game (stalker mode) that I stopped playing because it is absolutely boring.  Now if there was less wildlife and a chance of ACTUALLY dying, it would be fun.

Well it's alpha what do you expect, off course is boring since it lacks content which will not be the case on the release date however that does not mean  that sliders will make it more fun. Putting sliders at this stage will brake the whole experience, it will become more buggy nothing else. I prefer they concentrate on adding new content rather than playing with the engine, there will be tons of time for that after it's release date wouldn't you agree?

I wasn't asking for sliders to be implemented at this stage of the game.  That is why I posted this under "Alpha Wish List > Post any wish list items you'd like to see added to the game in the future"   I find the game amazing.  That is why I stated that I find the game boring after such and such a time.  Generally after I have made hide clothes and have so many items I'm just staying alive to build up days, which doesn't interest me at all.  My wish for the wishlist is this:  I would like to be able to tweak the difficulty, only in sandbox, after they have completed what they are working on...if they see fit to do it.  If they don't, I'm fine with that.  I'm not going to stop playing this amazing game.  Just my wish.

Since you put it that way, I believe there should be more options yes for example wolf Strength: "pups, mature, Alphas "  wolf numbers: "Loners (1 wolf), Weak pack(1-2 wolves), Strong pack(2-3 wolves)" same thing for deer and rabbits.

Exactly!  Thanks.  I don't even use the snares to get rabbits, I shoot them with the bow.  More sporting.  =)  I'd also settle for a simple things like temperature adjuster (colder) and items(fewer).  More powerful wolves would be great, perhaps longer in between spawns for all animals.  I love the way this game has me on edge for the first few days to a week into it.

  • 3 months later...

Just wanted to second the idea of sliders. The animals are a cool addition but ultimately I think the real enemy in this game is the world itself -- and of course your own ennui.

That said, making the game much more punishing via weather effects would mix things up in a much more interesting fashion than simply adding the number and aggressiveness of wolves. Some people may feel differently (wanting more aggressive animals with less weather challenge) which is why the slider idea is a clever one.

There've been plenty of times where I've had weeks of clear daylight to explore because I'm conservative in stocking supplies. I can avoid blizzards because I can afford to. But if there was only one clear day per month or so, then I'd be forced to explore during white out conditions rather than just hole up. It would make day breaks incredibly valuable, and would also make any sort of shelter you find that much more valuable.
