battlejackal
Having just got back into TLD after a year, I started my journey on the new map in stalker mode. Many, many, many, many deaths later I finally started lasting longer than a few days but the learning experience to get there was awesome! Just ticked over on my 30th day, all in all really enjoy the challenge of Timberwolf and the many new changes made to the game. Well done Hinterland and thank you for the rewarding experience!! To commemorate here are my screenshots of getting settled in at the Mountaineer's Hut: http://imgur.com/a/gYfC1 Bonus shot, finally making my way to the top:
June
Timberwolf Mountain is an awesome area. I spent most of my 600+ day playthrough there, Actually I think the mountaineer´s hut is the best place for setting up camp ingame. Fishing hut, rabbits, a wolf and a deer just on the doorstep and lots of firewood. Also a bear if you like the challenge. I also put the climbing ropes to every possible rock, so I can go anywhere I want now. ^^ Epic screenshot btw.
battlejackal
It's great how you can open up routes by adding the climbing ropes, it's probably my favorite layout of a map and the most enjoyable to navigate. 600+ days! That's impressive. The hut is nice and I'm settled in now but starting out with no decent clothes saw the end of many of my initial lives. Eventually I figured out to deploy the rope leading up to the cave and sleep there most nights whilst suitable clothes were acquired. Great map to start on, awesome challenge! Braeirden
Gotta +1 this, basically in the exact same boat as OP. Just returned to TLD and this zone on Stalker pounded the absolute bejingles out of me many many times before I got a foothold. Almost 30days in myself too and trying to avoid leaving this zone if I can, it's just so wild...........

The shelter can suck in this map unless you have warm clothes and lots of firewood, just saying this so noobs to this region realise it's a lot hard to survive on this map than others. June
Right, I forgot how cold the hut can get. It´s definitely hardcore to start a new game there, especially in Stalker mode.
Vhalkyrie
The hut is so cold, but it's my favorite house in the game. Bed, workbench and stove close to each other, just like Trapper's Cabin. But the view of the lake! Food on the doorstep. Now if only I could fix that damn hole in the roof.

That hole should be repairable. It should take a couple of weeks or more to accomplish (finding/collecting/drying of materials) but it should be doable. Some play through's I would fix it others I wouldn't.
